Alan Hahn celebrated his 10th anniversary at Newsday in March 2005. The Long Island native grew up the black sheep in a frustrated Rangers household during the Islanders dynasty era. In 1999, he started his dream job of covering the Islanders beat for Newsday. In his first season, Hahn earned the Newsday Publisher's Award for Sports Writing for his coverage of the Islanders and Rangers and the Devils' run to the Stanley Cup during the 1999-2000 season. In the time since he has taken the reigns of the NHL Insider, covering the world of hockey, and serves as chapter president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. He has also written two books on the Islanders -- "Birth of a Dynasty: The 1980 New York Islanders" and "Fish Sticks: The Fall and Rise of the New York Islanders." Word is he's threatening to write another. Hahn recently resumed his own hockey playing career after a 20 year hiatus during which he poorly imitated a basketball player. Now he poorly imitates a hockey player. Very poorly. But on a brighter side, the 34-year-old is married with two children, Emma, 4, and Zachary, 2, and lives in Holbrook, NY. March 19, 2006Players face 'cap' decision TAMPA, Fla. March 12, 2006 Will Theodore get his act together in Colorado? Colorado hardly is a lottery-bound seller, but the Avalanche's most significant deal at the trade deadline was made with the future in mind. And it was a risk, at that. February 19, 2006 Olympics good, but a tough fit The NHL has yet to commit to the Winter Olympics after 2010, and the debate about whether the league should continue taking these two-week breaks in the middle of the season is very much on the front burner. February 12, 2006 Silence not too Great The news hit Gary Bettman as suddenly and shockingly as it hit the rest of us. Bettman got word of it at midnight Monday, just hours before the New Jersey State Police went public with its investigation that linked Rick Tocchet to an illegal sports gambling ring. January 1, 2006 Downfall of the Bleakhawks The Chicago Blackhawks are 0-4 since general manager Dale Tallon's pre-Christmas threat that his trading post was open and everybody was on the block. So much for motivation. |
