Sponsorship

If you're interested in a career as an Officer in the Royal Navy and want to aim for the highest qualification, our sponsorship scheme gives you the chance to get paid while you study and the prospect of a commission.

Competition for scholarship places is keen. You need a good educational background with at least two A-levels (or equivalent) with a minimum of 140 UCAS points and many Officers now join as graduates. But education is not all we look for - personal qualities of potential leadership, initiative and management are just as important.

Scholarship scheme

If you are an A-level student you can apply for one of our sixth form scholarships of £1,050 per year. You will also get the chance to experience Naval life before you start training - for example, sampling life at sea as a guest in the wardroom of a ship. If you are successful in gaining a scholarship you can still go on to apply for university sponsorship. You will be expected to serve as an Officer for between 5.5 and 6.5 years.

Bursary

If you're thinking of going to university or college you might be eligible for one of our DTUS Bursaries £5,500 per year, other Engineering Bursars £4,000 per year, all other Bursars £1,500 per year). You remain a civilian while you study but will be expected to spend part of your vacations getting to know the Service. There is more flexibility about when you can apply for a bursary, you are not limited to certain specialisations and, unlike the University Cadetship scheme, and you can apply for all forms of entry.

Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme DTUS
