Modern and effective medical support is a fundamental part of the United Kingdom's military capabilities. To that end the Royal Naval Medical Service's promotes and maintains the health, fitness and well being of Royal Naval Personnel which is vital to the Royal Navy's operational capability and effectiveness.

The Royal Navy recruits and trains a skilled multidisciplinary health care team to care for the needs of all personnel and in some case their dependants. Medical, Dental and Nursing Officers and Ratings work with colleagues drawn from the professions allied to medicine in conjunction with personnel from the Army and RAF, to deliver health care in a variety of settings, primary and secondary care, ashore and afloat, in peacetime and in conflict.

It is hoped that the Medical Branch site and the Royal Naval Medical Services Reference Site give a brief but informative insight into today's Royal Naval Medical Services.
