The Royal Marines Reserve is divided into five main RMR Units. Each RMR Unit may then further divided into RMR Detachments. Each RMR Unit is responsible for recruiting, selecting and training the volunteers drawn from their area.

Setting Your Sights

Hopefully you will have read about what the Royal Marines Reserve would ask of you and what we offer in return. Now it's up to you to decide if it is the right move for you. Not an easy decision. So we offer the opportunity for you to seek further guidance from someone who can advise you from first hand experience.

Please contact the Recruiting Officer at your local RMR Unit or a local Armed Forces Career Office, they will be pleased to talk over your plans with you to reach a decision. They will not pressurise you to join - after all it's in both our interests that you make the right choice.

For further information about joining the Royal Marines Reserve:

• Find out whether there is an RMR Detachment near you.
• Then see which RMR Unit that is responsible for your local RMR Detachment.
• Use the RMR Unit contact details to get in touch with the person responsible for Recruiting. They will be able to answer any questions you should have.
• In addition they will be able to give you details of the upcoming dates for recruiting and selection.

Getting Selected

If you decide that the RMR is for you, then you will have to prepare for the Selection Process that is designed to test whether you have the potential muscle, mind and grit to complete basic training and pass the Commando Course.

Selection Process

• You must first of all fulfil the initial entry requirements.

• It is important to then ensure that you are physically prepared.

• Your first step will be to attend a Presentation Day at your local unit.

• Next step will be to attend for a day's Medical & Documentation Checks.

• Finally the Selection Weekend will test your muscle, mind and grit.

• If selected you will begin basic training with an Induction & Orientation Weekend.

Former Royal Marines & Commando Trained Ranks

Anyone who has previously passed the Commando Course will not will be required to complete basic training again. Please contact the Recruiting Officer at your local RMR Unit to discuss what the RMR has to offer you and what skills you have to offer the RMR.
