Collection overrun lowers deficit to R7.9bn 2006-02-16 06:00:01
A tax collection overrun of R41 billion, mainly due to higher-than-expected corporate profits plus savings, brought the deficit down to 0.5 percent of gross domestic product, or R7.9 billion, in 2005/06, allowing room for the deficit to rise to 1.5 percent in 2006/07 before falling again, the Budget Review said.
