The Day of Reconciliation, this Friday, will see many Joburgers enjoying a variety of indigenous games, a drumming session, music and free play at historic Constitution Hill. The day will be celebrated from 10am to 1pm on the lawns of Constitution Hill's Women's Jail.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic basket or buy one from the coffee shop at Constitution Hill. Constitution Kids provides a platform for children aged between three and 12 to learn about their rights in a fun, interactive manner.
This will be achieved through activities such as storytelling, drama therapy, poetry and praise songs. Constitution Hill is a mixed-use development and the new home of the Constitutional Court
.
It is is also the site of Johannesburg's notorious Old Fort Prison Complex, commonly known as Number Four. Many leading political activists in South Africa, including Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, were detained there.
Constitution Hill offers a full calendar of public programmes and exhibitions that bring the site to life and enables the public to connect with the activities of the Constitutional Court. For reservations call Smacx or Mmabatho at 01-381-3100 or fax 011-381-3108.
