Family Benefit Party
February 6, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

An evening of art projects, games, gallery activities, and refreshments for the whole family! Join the fun and help support the Museum. For ticket information or to purchase tickets online, see Family Benefit Party. You need not be a Member of the Museum to attend the Museum’s annual Family Benefit Party.

Your ticket to this unforgettable evening helps support essential programs for the benefit of all of the Museum's audiences.

Met Holiday Monday—February 20

The Main Building of the Museum will be open on February 20, a special Met Holiday Monday. Bring the family and look for our greeters—easily spotted in their bright red aprons—who will be on hand to recommend programs that the whole family can enjoy.

The Museum's special exhibitions, public restaurants, and shops will be open on this Holiday Monday. There is no additional charge, beyond admission contribution, to attend exhibitions at the Met.

Attend a series of family classes designed to introduce young visitors to the Museum and its collection. Tours begin at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:15 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Free with Museum admission.

Met Holiday Mondays are sponsored by Bloomberg.

Say thank you to someone special by giving Metropolitan Museum Guest Passes. These passes grant priority entrance to the Museum during public hours, including Holiday Mondays, and may be mailed to your desired recipient. This gift supports the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Romance at the Met

Treat yourself to a romantic night in the sculpture courts, gardens, and romantic spaces of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Works of art themselves, these spaces provide dramatic settings for the masterpieces they house.

Petrie Court Café: enjoy a special Valentine's 3-course prix-fixe dinner with wine suggestions set against the backdrop of Central Park and The Carroll and Milton Petrie European Sculpture Court, Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11.

Great Hall Balcony Bar: indulge in a Valentine's dessert of chocolate-dipped strawberries and champagne, all to a background of live classical music, offered Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11.

The Astor Court: enjoy the related exhibitions The Four Seasons and The “Hundred Antiques” in Chinese Textiles.

Robert Rauschenberg: Combines
Through April 2, 2006

This exhibition is a comprehensive survey of the highly inventive body of work that Robert Rauschenberg (b. 1925) terms "Combines." Among the 67 works in the show are a number that have not been shown publicly before, as well as some of the artist’s best-known objects, such as Canyon and Monogram.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month, and the Museum's annual celebration features an array of exceptional programming. Starting with a film on the origins of jazz early in the month, public programs include gallery talks ranging in topic from women in ancient Egypt to African influences on modern art.

Families at the Met

February is for families—and the Museum has a full schedule of events this month.

Special sessions of the popular Look Again! and How Did They Do That? family programs feature themes related to Black History Month.

A special series—A Mid-Winter Recess's Dream is just in time for the mid-winter school break.

Presented in conjunction with the Antonello da Messina: Sicily’s Renaissance Master exhibition, there will be a performance of traditional Sicilian puppet theater, The Battle of Orlando and Rinaldo for the Love of Angelica.

This month the theme is sculpture for El Primer Contacto con el Arte, the Spanish-language program for ages 6 through 12, and the Charles H. Tally Art Evenings for Families focus on imagination in different cultures.

Children's Art Classes for Members

Children's art programs for Members, beginning at the Family/Dual level, offer children the unique experience of creating works of art right beside the Museum's masterpieces. Beginning at the age of 4 and continuing through 14, students have the opportunity to explore and discover the Museum's collection.

February at The Cloisters

Winter is a wonderful time to visit The Cloisters, the branch of the Metropolitan Museum devoted to medieval art.

We are pleased to offer several gallery talks ranging in topic from interactions between Byzantium and Europe to the design and installation of The Cloisters collection, as well as guided tours.

For families, there are two Gallery Workshops at The Cloisters inspired by animals, both real and imaginary, in art. Also, the Family Audio Guide provides 25 destinations ideal for children 6 to 12 and their families—including gardens, tapestries, choir stalls, and tombs.

Enhance your visit with The Cloisters Audio Guide, featuring medieval music evocative of the time, as well as a family program and highlights in French and Spanish.

Students and Teachers

Middle- and high-school students have the unique opportunity to learn about art by studying original works of art in the Museum with instructors from the Education Department. New classes are now available; classes are free but registration is required.

Registration is now open for the new semester of teacher workshops being offered at the Museum. These programs introduce works of art in the Museum's encyclopedic collection, explore interdisciplinary curriculum applications, and introduce methods for teaching with objects. Enrollment is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
