Athletics South Africa (ASA) on Tuesday announced that Gladys Lukhwareni of Athletics Gauteng North has tested positive for a banned substance, and has been suspended from all athletics, pending the outcome of a hearing.
The South Africa Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDFS) confirmed that a urine sample collected from Lukhwareni at the Spar Ladies Race on September 4 2005, confirmed the presence of 19-Norandsrosterone, which are metabolites and/or precursors of the anabolic agent Nandrolone.
In accordance with IAAF Rule 32.2(a), the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers, in an athlete's body tissues or fluids, constitutes an anti-doping rule violation. Norandrosterone is a prohibited substance in and out-of-competition, under IAAF Rules.
Lukhwareni has opted not to have the B-sample tested, but will attend a hearing on November 9. - Sapa
