Sorry for not updating in a while, real life issues got in the way. A patch was released a few days ago, this seems to be the most liked patch CCP has ever released as it doesn't appear to have had too many problems. One annoying feature of the patch is the removal of the save password option, so make sure you know your password!

by SheepCow on Sunday, May 18, 2003

The servers are all back to normal now. The lag that was experienced for a few hours after the patch has been sorted, but CCP will be keeping an eye on this for the considerable future we hope. Recent events have highlighted the problems MMORPGs face with patching, some bugs don't surface until thousands of simultaneous users are online. As always, keep your eye on the garden of eve server status graph.

A patch was released today that has caused havok with the servers, if you are unable to connect this is why. The servers are currently limited to 1500 players and the following message is available to those that manage to login.
When the new patch was deployed today a bug surfaced which overloaded our database servers, this bug had not been identified before for it didn't cause an overload until thousands of players were in game along with a large increase in open orders on regional markets. We restarted the servers with a cap so we could see what was going on and found the problem. We then decided to fix the problem rather than having another dreaded rollback. Due to this our scheduled downtime today got extended by 5hr. We will be looking into our downtime and update plans to [minimise] the risk of this happening again. Thank you for your patience. The CCP Team.
Well there you have it, hopefully CCP will get a better patch testing system in place. See you in game. Information on the servers' status can be found here.

How much would you pay for 10 million ISK? Well you shouldn't pay anything as it's against the EULA (end user license agreement) to sell money and items on Ebay, but people are doing it! We'll have to see how far CCP goes to inforce this item ...

FilePlanet have nabbed a new EVE Movie. The movie shows character creation along with some combat and other bits of gameplay. Currently only the low bandwidth version is available, but I have been informed a higher quality movie is on the way.

Crowd Control Productions' massively-multiplayer persistent online role-playing game set in space, EVE Online: The Second Genesis, has been released worldwide. Once you've got your copy, head to the registration page. Once registered you'll need the patch (it should auto-patch when you connect if not, visit here), then you can head on into the game and get playing -- I'll see you there!

A quick heads up, EVE finally hits shelves tommorrow so make sure you get a copy! The beta is currently in Armageddon - everyone has been given about 500,000,000 isk (enough to buy a few battleships and fully kit them up) and all skills are at level 5, there should be some great battles going down all over the place. If you're in the beta, this is the day you should be playing non-stop!

Copies of EVE are dribbling out all over the place, I have a copy of EVE sitting on my desk at the moment. To anyone that's got the retail copy, keep in mind anything you do will get wiped when the beta ends.

There's a preview of EVE up at Worthplaying, it includes some screens of the game. The preview is a nice and positive one incase you were wondering.

Build 961 is the fruit of today's downtime, it includes the new autopilot feature. If you want to use it, set a destination on the map, then type /cmd autopilot on in the local chat window. The full list and download information can be found on the Gemini Website

The EVE beta is due to end on Sunday, 4th May. Campion reveiled that they want to give everyone level 5 skills and make everything cost 1 ISK (effectively making everything free) for the last day, so expect some very large ships plodding around on Saturday/Sunday.

For those of you wondering about GAME (a UK games retailer) and their mysterious release date of 2nd May we have a little update from CCP.
The Game will not be available by any means through Game.uk or any other means before May 6th. Pronto.
This info must be based on some misconseptions or misunderstanding.
Thanks to DeityOne for sending in this info. Either CCP doesn't know what Crucial Entertainment (the European publisher) is doing, or GAME is very confused.

Update: We've heard a possible explansion, apparently GAME only release new titles on Fridays, as the official release isn't a Friday they plan on releasing the title on the previous Friday, hence the 2nd May.

For those gamers not lucky enough to be in the EVE: The Second Genesis beta test I've prepared some screens. I tried to get some interesting ones, so I attacked some very easy to kill pirates (so I didn't get blown up taking screens) in a nice and secure system. The first screen or two shows the Wreath a Minmatar industrial ship, the rest are in my Rifter, a Minmatar ship that's good for combat.

EVE has "gone gold", this means the final content for the EVE CD has been created and will be taken to be replicated. There is a developer chat tonight in the official EVE chat room (#eve-online on irc.stratics.com) at 21:00 GMT, 22:00 BST, 14:00 PST, 17:00 EST.
HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE GAME "EVE ONLINE: THE SECOND GENESIS" CLIENT GOES 'GOLD'; NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT (NDA) DROPPED TODAY

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND, April 23, 2003 - Crowd Control Productions (CCP), developer of the highly anticipated massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) "EVE Online: The Second Genesis" announced today the client portion of the game has been certified 'gold' and has been released to manufacturing. Development continues on the server side of EVE which will be ongoing through to launch on May 6, 2003.

Also announced today, CCP has dropped the Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) between CCP and EVE ONLINE beta testers. EVE ONLINE will be simultaneously published in North America by Viacom's Simon & Schuster Interactive unit and in Europe by Crucial Entertainment (Rated "T" by the ESRB).

Reynir Hardarson, art director and co-founder of CCP Games, commented on this announcement. "Our flagship is built and we're fine tuning the engine as we're about to set sail. Many fan and news sites have been compiling extensive databases of information on EVE such as maps, strategy guides, and so many other things. It's really amazed us how the fans have driven the EVE universe, even though the game has not yet shipped. Dropping the NDA this will give them the opportunity to share these things with everyone."

Simon & Schuster Interactive's Mike "Campion" Wallis, producer of EVE Online explains what "going gold" means, "By going gold, we have finalized the content on the game CD and received approval to manufacture the discs. The beauty of online games is that we will continue to patch and update the game through its lifecycle, so players will constantly be receiving new gameplay scenarios, bug fixes, and optimizations. By including all of the large assets, such as graphic and music files, on the retail CD, players won't have to download these separately. The end result is that our patches are small and quick to download, even for modem users."
As said earlier the NDA has been dropped, expect some screens later today!
