Activity 1: Hip-hop and Woman-Hating Activity 2: Popular Culture and Teen Rebellion Reading: "Same Old Song"
This activity extends Readings 6 and 9 and the activities that accompany them. Define “misogyny.” Based on the article Hip-Hop: Anti-Misogyny Message, and on what you know about hip-hop music, do you think hip-hop is misogynistic? Bring to class examples of hip-hop CDs and music videos that support your answer. Share them with the class. Keep a tally of the examples people brought in. How many support the thesis that hip-hop is misogynistic? How many support the opposite point of view? Write a letter or essay explaining your point of view, and supporting it with the data people have brought to class. |
