Character Analysis

Choose a Newsweek article about opposing candidates in an upcoming election.

Name:
Date of Issue:
Article's Title:

1) What are some positive virtues you would hope to find in an elected person? List as many virtues as possible (e.g., loyalty and fairness).

2)Read the Newsweek articles you chose. Then using the above virtues, list the virtues of the two candidates you just read about in the articles.

Candidate 1

Candidate 2

3) Are the candidates' characters similar? Different? Explain why or why not.

4) Explore and expand your knowledge of the candidates to see what other information and details you can find about them on the Internet. You may want to begin your search at one of your favorite search engines, like Google, or simply begin at newsweek.msnbc.com. Expand your virtue list for each candidate.

5) Now that you have gathered information on the candidates, which of the two would you vote for in an election? Give support for your choice.

6) Write a persuasive essay on how important "character" is to you when making a decision to vote or not to vote for a candidate during an election. Use concrete examples of virtues in your essay.
