In addition to the array of printed, audiovisual, and electronic materials produced by the Museum's Education Department (available in The Library and Teacher Resource Center in the Uris Center for Education or for purchase in the online Met Store), The Metropolitan Museum of Art conducts a rich variety of professional development programs for elementary and secondary school educators. These workshops introduce participants to works of art in the Museum's collection and explore related interdisciplinary teaching methods. Get an overview of these programs, or consult the online calendar for times and dates of upcoming programs.

Teachers are also invited to make an appointment to visit the Museum—or The Cloisters, the Museum's branch devoted to the art of medieval Europe—with their classes for a staff-guided or teacher-guided tour or series of tours. All fees are waived for schools located within the five boroughs of New York City. Classes with special needs are welcomed; five different programs are designed with the specific needs of these students in mind. Get more information about school group visits or about educational programs at The Cloisters.

Teachers and administrators of after-school programs may also arrange for Museum educators to visit their classrooms to conduct interactive, slide-illustrated discussions on a variety of topics prior to students' firsthand experience of the Metropolitan or The Cloisters. Get more information about these offsite programs.
