Fox Touts Bush's "Plan" re Energy Independence After Energy Secretary said it was "Purely an Example"

Thu 06:55 PM

On Tuesday night during his State of the Union address, George Bush said he would work to help the U.S. "move beyond a petroleum-based economy and make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past." Yesterday morning, less than 24 hours later, we learned that Bush didn't mean it.

Bush's energy secretary and his national economic advisor held a conference call with reporters Wednesday morning. Energy Secretary Bodman said "This was purely an example." He said Bush just wanted to dramatize the issue in a way that "every American sitting out there listening to the speech understands."

These Are the Women George Bush Didn't Want America to See

Thu 01:00 PM

What is it about these two women, on opposite sides of the political spectrum, that scares George Bush so much that they were refused entrance to the State of the Union speech?

Hannity & Colmes Overlooks Bush's Lie In Their State Of The Union Discussion

Thu 01:00 PM

Last night, there was a lengthy discussion with Republican Mitt Romney about President Bush's State of the Union Address but somehow this little tidbit from Knight RIdder never got discussed:"One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally."

More News Ignored By Hannity & Colmes

Thu 12:59 PM

Hannity & Colmes was so busy bashing Democrats last night that the show FOX News says “relishes in controversial topics" never got around to a few other important subjects, such as the GAO Report on Katrina described by AP as "a stinging assessment of slow federal relief efforts."

Bush Lets ANOTHER Fabrication into the State of the Union?

Thu 11:00 AM

Dayside did not air yesterday, as Fox opted to play George Bush's speech from Tennessee in its entirety. As Bush was merely recapping his State of the Union Address, he continued to discuss how America is addicted on oil, even as his own Secretary of Energy was claiming that original inclusion was a mistake.

The FOX News Spirit Of Bipartisanship: When Democrats Criticize Republicans, It’s Outrageous. When Republicans Criticize Democrats, It’s Punditry.

Thu 03:20 AM

Once again, the Hannity & Colmes Republicans were on their high horse last night as they patted themselves on the back for being morally superior to the "angry" and "shrill" Democrats - all the while denigrating them almost non-stop.

Hannity Treats Colonel Klink Like He’s A Real Nazi

Thu 03:03 AM

In what may be the most hilarious and novel Democrat-bashing yet, Sean Hannity attacked Colleen Rowley, 9/11 whistleblower now running as a Democrat for Congress in Minnesota, for “using the Nazi reference” when comparing her opponent to Colonel Klink, the character from the old TV show, Hogan’s Heroes.

Judge Napolitano defends Sheehan's free speech but slights Democrats

Wed 11:52 PM

Judge Andrew Napolitano appeared on The Big Story today 2/1/06 and defended Cindy Sheehan's right to wear a tee-shirt with ANY message on it in the House chambers, from which she was roughly led last night before Bush's State of the Union speech.

Bill O'Reilly: Culture Warrior On Smear Patrol

Wed 09:14 PM

Bill O'Reilly, self proclaimed "culture warrior" proclaimed the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to be one of the " media operations that traffics in defamation" earning a position on his boycott list posted on his website. A graphic of a police badge with "Smear Patrol" printed beneath it added a special touch to the proceedings.

The SOTU Address Must Have Been Bad - Cavuto Emphasizes Alito & Roberts Instead

Wed 07:22 PM

When Fox News is diverting attention away from the State of the Union address by 4:00 p.m. the following day, you know the reviews haven't been good. Such was the case today (February 1, 2006). Immediately after Your World w/Neil Cavuto began, Cavuto launched what would be a 37-minute promotion of George Bush Our Tenacious and Successful Leader - tenacious and successful because he got two new justices appointed to the Supreme Court despite "opposition to both."

Fox Has To Give Bush's Standard Excuse For Spying On Americans

Wed 05:21 PM

I can't remember all of the times I've seen Fox run a clip of the president giving the same excuse for spying on Americans, but today it was repeated on Studio B with Shepard Smith. Mike Emmanuel reported the segment on President Bush's speech at the Grand Old Opry today.

As my fellow News Hound, Chrish, reported, even the president's staunchest supporters believe this may go all the way to the Supreme Court and the Alito confirmation could be his saving grace.

Jim DeMint Doesn't Know His Job Description

Wed 10:06 AM

Senator Jim DeMint (R - SC) appeared on Dayside yesterday along side Senator Jeff Bingaman (D - NM) to discuss the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, and after a very leading question provided by Dayside host Juliet Huddy, DeMint summed up exactly how the Republicans in Congress view their jobs.

Why Was Bush Afraid of a T-Shirt? Will Cindy Sheehan Run for Office?

Wed 08:06 AM

FOX & Friends this morning announced that activist Cindy Sheehan was handcuffed and escorted from the Capitol Building last night for wearing a T-shirt with an anti-war slogan. The San Francisco Chronicle reports today that Mrs. Sheehan was given a ticket to attend the State of the Union speech by northern California Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey. They also report that Mrs. Sheehan may have political aspirations.

Hannity & Colmes State Of The Union Coverage Leaves Out Democrat Response

Wed 03:21 AM

"Fair and balanced" FOX News completely ignored Democrat Timothy Kaine's response in its State Of The Union analysis on Hannity & Colmes. But if you can overlook that - a big if, I know - the coverage wasn't bad. The unbalanced array of guests (four Republicans, three Democrats) was made up for by the decent Democratic representation and good questions from both hosts. Sean Hannity must have been in a good mood from watching his hero (or maybe he successfully lobbied to shut out Kaine) because he toned down his speechifying and did some real interviewing. The result was an interesting show that I actually enjoyed watching.

FOX via Gibson parroting White House framing of Domestic Spying

Tue 11:56 PM

FOUR times today 1/31/06 during The Big Story viewers heard the White House verbiage for the scandal about warrantless domestic spying, the "terrorist surveillance program". DNC Vice-chair Susan Turnbull called Gibson on it; Judge Andrew Napolitano, who we know opposes the illegal spying, let it slide.

State of the Union - live thread

Tue 08:45 PM

As we prepare to suffer through another Bush production of spin, obfuscation, lies, and unwarranted applause, please read William Rivers Pitt's more honest appraisal here.

News Hounds Chrish and Donna and perhaps others will participate in a live commentary on the speech and the Democrat's response by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.

You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig but...

Tue 07:46 PM

Your World was, for the most part, slow today (January 31, 2006). There were several segments about what Bush might cover tonight in his State of the Union address. There was a recap of the Alito vote and his swearing in. There was some jawboning about what the new "Fed head," Ben Bernanke might do. But what struck me most was the addition of a stock ticker - the "Dow 30" - scrolling across the bottom of the screen.

Comment: The scroll only aired for about 40 seconds but it was touching, really. It was like adding jewelry or make-up to help someone look better, or, in this case, to make Your World look more like a "real" business news program. Ah, Fox. You've got to give them credit for taking these baby steps, but you can't change the fact that if you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.

"No litmus test", and I have a bridge for you

Tue 07:10 PM

Let's not waste any time. On The Big Story today 1/31/06, host John Gibson asked FOX News Legal Analyst (and long-time friend of the newest Supreme Court Justice, sworn in about four hours earlier) now that Alito's on the court, what lies ahead? Without hesitation Napolitano (JAN) replied "In a word, abortion."

Even the Oscars Aren't Safe from the Three Little Foxes!

Tue 06:24 PM

Leave it to the FOX & Friends trio of Steve Doocy, E. D. Hill and Brian Kilmeade to find something nasty to say about the Oscars. At 8:39 AM EST, as the nominations were announced, FOX set these three up to do commentary in silhouette (like the cult favorite Mystery Science Theatre 3000). Here's a transcript of the Oscar announcements complete with inane banter. Afterwards, they were joined by Lisa Bernhard, FOX News Entertainment Correspondent, for a "Let's Belittle, Demean and Marginalize" the Oscars for the FOX News audience!
