O'Reilly Steps in It AGAIN!

Tue 05:30 AM

Bill O'Reilly's inability to do quality research never ceases to amaze me. Yet again, during last night's show, he got it wrong! In a segment about the "limits of dissent in time of war" he bad-mouthed his nemesis, Al Franken, willingly aided by a sorry little man named Alan Skorski, who's written a sorry little "tell all" book about Al Franken entitled Pants on Fire. (More on that in another post.) Here's what the Bloviating Billster had to say:

A 9/11 Victim Teams Up With FOX News To Stump For The Patriot Act And Domestic Spying

Tue 04:50 AM

Judging from the number of pro-Patriot Act and pro-domestic spying discussions I have seen recently on FOX News, the Bush Administration must be very, very worried about public opinion on these matters (as well they should be). Last night, Hannity & Colmes brought on Debra Burlingame, the relative of a 9/11 victim in support of domestic spying and the Patriot Act. Sean Hannity tried to make her look like a spokesperson for all 9/11 victims.

Traitor Robert Novak Says Ted Kennedy Looks “Terrible” Filibustering. I Guess It’s Not As Becoming As Outing A CIA Agent

Tue 01:52 AM

Traitor and FOX News Contributor Robert Novak, the latest recipient of FNC’s Republican Rehab, actually had the nerve to tell Alan Colmes last night (1/30/06) on Hannity & Colmes that Ted Kennedy “looked terrible” standing up for his conscience and trying to filibuster the Supreme Court confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito. This from the same Robert Novak who recently told a national television audience that his only regret about outing CIA Agent Valerie Plame were the repercussions for himself.

If Sean Hannity’s So Sure He Has Truth On His Side, Why Does He Twist It So Much?

Tue 12:33 AM

It’s a rare night that Sean Hannity doesn’t distort the truth in his endless quest to demean Democrats and polarize the nation further. Last night (1/30/06) was another perfect example as Hannity either lied or proved himself shockingly ignorant about why people are upset over Bush’s domestic spying program. As usual, Hannity was smug and sanctimonious toward those with whom he disagrees. But if he’s so confident, why isn’t the truth good enough for him? If right is on his side, why not reality?

FOX News Guest Bernard Kerik Smears CNN As Terrorists’ Favorite

Mon 11:30 PM

On Hannity & Colmes tonight, Bernard Kerik, the disgraced former NYC police chief and former Interim Minister of Interior in Iraq, responded to Sean Hannity's question about the NSA wiretapping controversy by saying, “We’ve got to take the politics out of the war on terrorism, go after the terrorists and make sure that there isn’t another 9/11.” Apparently, what he really meant is that only some politics should be taken out of the war on terror.

Cindy Sheehan: FOX Enemy Of The Week

Mon 09:16 PM

Cindy Sheehan attended the World Social Forum this week in Caracas, Venezuela and was photographed with Hugo Chavez. The timing couldn't have been more perfect for FOX News giving them the chance to hold her up as the symbol of the anti-American Left undermining the President right before his SOTU message. Although FOX always manages to find someone to play this role, Cindy Sheehan and Michael Moore are their ultimate poster children. John Gibson had Juan Williams and Kirsten Powers on Big Story to discuss Sheehan's bad behavior and how it reflects on the Democrats.

Per Fox, the Democrats DID Filibuster ("For Days" No Less)

Mon 07:25 PM

At 4:32 p.m. EDT today (January 30, 2006), during Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Fox broke in with a FOX NEWS ALERT and began airing a live shot of the floor of the Senate. Cavuto began speaking: "There is the Senate Majority Leader, ah, Bill Frist. They're debating how they're gonna stop debating, ah, pretty much, ah, to end the filibuster here. What's going to happen in the next eight or nine minutes, after they're done yapping, they're gonna vote about how they're gonna stop yapping, and effectively end a filibuster that has dragged on for days, really, ah, and that could pave the way for Judge Samuel Alito to get an up or down vote in the U.S. Senate tomorrow morning."

Fox Photo Op - Ken Lay Carrying A Bible Leaving Church

Mon 06:58 PM

Even Shepard Smith had had enough when he saw the film clip that Fox aired on Studio B today. The film clip showed Kenneth Lay coming out of a church with a bible in one hand. Then again, maybe no one would have noticed if Smith hadn't pointed it out. All I saw was Ken Lay walking out of a building with a black bound book in his hand, I didn't know he was coming out of a church and carrying a bible until Smith reported it.

For some background on the Enron scandal read this synopsis of a documentary entitled, 'Enron, The Smartest Guys In The Room.'

Fox Guest Sends Cavuto Greetings from Rush Limbaugh

Mon 06:52 PM

Last week the Drudge Report carried a story about a Seattle, Washington minister named Ken Hutcherson, of the Antioch Bible Church, who has launched a boycott of Seattle-area companies, such as Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard, who favor civil rights legislation barring discrimination against gays and lesbians. In an attempt to gain support and publicity for his project, Hutcherson has cozied up to the likes of Ralph Reed (formerly of the Christian Coalition), James Dobson (of Focus on the Family), and Rush Limbaugh. Hutcherson's connections seem to be working.

Today (January 30, 2006), Fox News gave Hutcherson a nationally televised platform from which to promote his cause.

Alito Filibuster - Vote Finished

Mon 01:21 PM

FROM Democrats.com:

5:00 pm: 17 Democrats betrayed all of us by voting with 55 goose-stepping Republicans to defeat the filibuster. We were betrayed by many Senators we worked very hard to elect. Call those Senators and share your anger (in a controlled way, of course) with their receptionists: Akaka (HI), Baucus (MT), Bingaman (NM), Byrd (WV), Cantwell (WA), Carper (DE), Dorgan (ND), Inouye (HI), Johnson (SD), Kohl (WI), Landrieu (LA), Lieberman (CT), Lincoln (AR), Nelson (FL), Nelson (NE), Rockefeller (WV), Salazar (CO)

4:30 PM - Cloture vote soon.

Mailbox Unfunnies - "Sionara" Edition

Mon 08:15 AM

The last time I posted a collection of these we were in the midst of the ... er, holiday season. That lull seems to have given the haters new enthusiasm for wasting their time & ours. Maybe they're just doing pre-emptive reaction to the inevitable guffaws & derision that will greet Bush's upcoming State of the Union "speech" (I use the term loosely). As always, identifying info has been deleted to protect the ignorant. Enjoy!

WARNING: Most of these are pretty mild, but there is some vile language in a few, so if you're offended by that sort of thing, please don't read this thread.

Go Ahead, Ruin Sean Hannity’s Day!

Mon 05:30 AM

Would you love to get some revenge on Sean Hannity? Have you ever dreamt of knocking that arrogant so-and-so off his Hanctimonious high horse? Longed to look into his squinty, bully-boy eyes and tell him, “Get over it!” Here’s your chance. Join the tsunami of grass roots activism for the filibuster against Judge Alito’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. Do it for the sake of democracy, do it for the sake of checks and balances on executive power, for the sake of individual privacy, for the sake of reproduction rights, for the sake of checks on corporate power, for the sake of environmental protection. But if none of those are enough, do it for the sake of getting back at Sean Hannity.

"Hands Off Our Internet!"

Mon 12:51 AM

From Common Cause:

You think the Internet will always be the great freewheeling information superhighway you've grown to love? Well, think again. Media giants want to privatize our Internet. Telecommunications companies like AT&T; and Verizon are lobbying Congress for the right to control where you go on the Internet, how fast you get there, and how much you pay for the service.

Tell them to keep their hands off our Internet!

This Divided State

Mon 12:30 AM

Steven Greenstreet's film, This Divided State, takes us back to the anxious and intoxicating time right before the 2004 election when the success and impact of Michael Moore's, Fahrenheit 9/11, infuriated and frightened the Republicans and energized and emboldened Democrats. Greenstreet takes us to Orem, Utah where the raw intensity of political division becomes plainly visible after Michael Moore is invited to speak at the University and Sean Hannity is then also invited to counter Moore.

Chris Wallace's Freudian slip on Fox News Sunday

Sun 11:25 PM

Howard Dean was quick-witted replying to Chris Wallace slip of the tongue today 1/29/06 on Fox News Sunday:

Wallace; "Governor, we're running out of money, but I just want to press this..."

Dean (laughing), "Yes we are, rapidly, so we need a new party controlling Washington!"

Good one, Dr. Dean!

Filibuster programming at Young Turks - keep up the pressure

Sun 01:11 AM

If you want to support a filibuster against Alito, here are two things you can do:

1. Visit this website and get the names of Senators to call to urge them to support the filibuster. Then make the calls!

2. Listen to the Young Turks' "filibuster for a filibuster." The Young Turks has cancelled all programming to talk non-stop in support of a filibuster. You can watch this progressive, L.A.-based show here.

3. Put your money where your mouth is - refuse to support Democrats in 06 and 08 if they don't support the filibuster. If not now, when??? It's now or never.

B Boys Mumble and Grumble Anxiously

Sat 10:16 PM

Mort Kondracke, Beltway Boys Democrat?, seemed a bit anxious about how Bush is doing on the eve of the State Of The Union speech this week saying that Bush is "not in great shape." When Barnes cheered him up with a delusional take on the President's performance, Kondracke revealed that he was being "pessimistic". If Kondracke is a Democrat, why is he so concerned about Bush getting a good report card? 1/28/06

The Mindless Dweebs on FOX & Friends Make Fun of the Georgetown Protesters

Sat 08:15 PM

On Wednesday's edition of the O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly viciously attacked Georgetown University, its students and Professor David Cole. He took cheap shots at those who wore hoods and turned their backs on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales during a speech he was invited to give at the Georgetown Law Forum. O'Reilly distorted the event in words and video clips, and then O'Reilly's condemnations were echoed Thursday morning by the babbling bubbleheads on FOX & Friends, only they used the vehicle of thinly veiled sarcasm to belittle the protesters.
