Ann Batik, 85, of Iselin, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, Pa. Born May 17, 1920, in Ernest, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Kazibroda) Batik. She lived in Iselin most of her life. She had been employed by Federal Laboratory in Tunnelton as a hose clamp assembler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Steve and John Batik; and a sister, Mary Klepacki. She is survived by a sister, Sophie Galando, of New Alexandria; a brother, Michael Batik, of Indiana, Pa.; a nephew, Daniel Galando, of New Alexandria; six nieces, Mary Ann Galando, of New Alexandria, Marianne Brauner and Patricia (Richard) Kukla, both of Clinton Township, Mich., Kristine (William) Neal, of Grand Blanc, Mich., Ruth (Andrew) Fitzgerald, of Amherst, Va., and Jonette "Nettie" Batik, of Indiana, Pa., who was also her caregiver; a sister-in-law, Edna Ruth Batik, of Cherry Tree, Pa.; and numerous cousins. James Michael Bauer, 63, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of North Huntingdon, beloved husband of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006. Born Nov. 14, 1942, in McKeesport, Mr. Bauer was a retired district superintendent for the Ceco and Waco Corporations in Pennsylvania and a member of the Western Pennsylvania Carpenter District Council Local 230. Mr. Bauer was an avid recreational pilot who belonged to several flying organizations. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #1406 in Melbourne. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Melbourne; his mother, Kathleen Nurse Bauer, of McKeesport; a brother, Louis Bauer, of McKeesport; three daughters, Kathleen (Jeff) Bauer-Wyatt, of Mims, Fla., Kari Bauer, of North Huntingdon, and Kelly (Michael) Dalo, of North Huntingdon; a son, Robert (Melissa) Bauer, of Melbourne; and four grandchildren, Julieanne, Kassandra, Zavier and Jason. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis, and his brothers, Robert and Jeff. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the JAMES W. Charles Lloyd Dill, 95, of Ocala, Fla., who was raised in Reedsville, W.Va., and formerly lived in McKeesport, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Ocala Regional Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1910, in Bretz, W.Va., to the late William and Bertie Robinson Dill and also was predeceased by his wife, Betty J. Dill, who died Dec. 10, 1990; daughters Louise Mason and Carol Ann Dill, and brother Robert Dill. Mr. Dill was a retired molder at U.S. Steel's National Tube Works, McKeesport; a former coal miner with Sterling Mines in West Virginia, and a member of the Moose lodge, Belleview, Fla. He was a huge Pirates and Steelers supporter and an avid bowler who won many awards in various tournaments. Surviving are daughter Mary "Libby" Fenster (Ted), of Linesville; sons Harry F. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Leo Otto, in 1952; her second husband, Clarence Erickson, in 1963; a son, James Otto; a grandson, John Loughner; a son-in-law, William Loughner; two brothers, Ashton and Lester Bigelow; and three sisters, Violet Guy, Roberta Burrell and Georgetta Stough. Catherine Laverne Gamble, 83, of West Mifflin, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006. She was born July 22, 1922, in Pittsburgh to the late William and Ann Thomas Huber and was the wife of the late James L. Gamble, who died Nov. 25, 2002. Catherine was a member of Holy Spirit Church, West Mifflin, and had worked for the South Park Inn and Skyvue Restaurant. Surviving are sons John W. Loretta Jean (Steeves) Gaydosh, 74, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. She was born June 15, 1931, in Brenizer, a daughter of the late George and Caroline (Enrico) Steeves. Loretta "Mom" devoted her life to God, to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Gaydosh was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Latrobe. She held silver memberships in Gam Sac Mah, of Cambridge Springs, and also Catholic Daughters of the Americas of Meadville. She was a member of various Rosary Altar Societies, had been a religious education coordinator and CCD teacher for 22 years. She also participated as a scout leader for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and had served as a Republican committeewoman. Mrs. Gaydosh had vast business experience and entrepreneurial endeavors, most recently in real estate. She was a graduate of Blairsville High School, Class of 1949. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bert Steeves. She is survived by her children, Georgean Wardzinski and her husband, Steven, of Morristown, N.J., George Gaydosh Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Cheswick, Mark A. Gaydosh and his wife, Kristin, of Pittsburgh, Lori Green and her husband, Thomas, of Chicago, Ill., and Timothy J. Gaydosh and his wife, Karen, of Mt. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Southwest Greensburg and was past president of the Westmoreland County Blind Association in Greensburg. A daughter of Lawrence T. and Erma Weaver Barnhart, she was born July 30, 1920, in Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Loucks was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville. She was a gifted poet and touched many lives with her poetry. Prior to her retirement in 1978, she was employed by Torrance State Hospital for 15 years as a secretary. Along with her husband, Genevieve owned and operated Lubecki's Lounge in Fairhope for 40 years, retiring in 1989. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and most importantly she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She attended Winchester Thurston and graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College. She was a member of the Fox Chapel Golf Club, Rolling Rock Golf Club, and the Lyford Cay Club in Nassau, Bahamas. Mrs. Lynch was an avid golfer and bridge player who loved to travel. Phyllis Ann Malchano, 53, of Ben Avon, formerly of Wexford, having fought the good fight against ovarian cancer, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006. Phyllis graduated from KWU, Duquesne University and La Roche College and was a founder of Together for Retarded Youth Inc. (TRY) and a former executive director of St. Joseph's House of Hospitalty, among other positions. An avid, published writer and a high-energy businesswoman, "Dr. Phyl" had her own consulting business and taught psychology at CCBC, CCAC and Penn State Beaver. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Emsworth, where she was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Centering Prayer Group. Phyllis enjoyed myriad interests, and chief among them was boating, during which she spent many happy hours on the Ohio River. Daughter of the late Frederick J. and Gertude (Staab) Malchano. She looked forward to being reuinited them and her beloved aunt, the late Dora Staab. Surviving are longtime friends Jerry DeSena, Charles "Chas" Quinn, Barbara Cook and Sister Harriet Seton, S.C. Robert W. Mason, 79, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born June 6, 1926, in Penn Hills, a son of the late W.C. and Marie (Esmieu) Mason. As he began his service in the Army during World War II, he was involved in the Battle of Normandy and went on to proudly serve his country in France, Germany and Belgium. Bob attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with his wife. As the owner of Mason TV for many decades, he was well-known in the community. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Claire (Saunders) Mason; their three sons, Tim, Ken and Shawn Mason; their two daughters, Dinah Mason and Cheri Brunory; and the daughters- and sons-in-law. He will be loved and missed by his nine grandsons and three granddaughters. He is also survived by his brother, Dave Mason and his wife, Marilyn, of Plum Borough; his sister, Agnes (Mason) Hand, of Colorado; and also Claire's brother and his best friend, Jerry Saunders and his wife, Kaye, of Monaca. Beatrice S. McCormick, 76, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, in St. Anne Home, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Olean, N.Y., a daughter of the late Dr. John and Irene Mack Sweeney. She graduated from Olean High School, Seton Hill College and the University of Pittsburgh. She was an elementary school teacher for the Greensburg Salem School District prior to retirement. John H. "Jack" Morgan, 78, of Forest Hills, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005. He was born in Homestead and graduated with high honors in 1945 from South Hills High School, where he participated in cheerleading and school plays and was captain of the swimming team in his senior year. He received National Honor Society recognition and was a speaker at his graduation exercises. Mr. Morgan enlisted in the Navy in 1945, was trained as an air traffic controller, served at NAS Patuxent River, Md., and was honorably discharged in 1948. Under the G.I. Bill, he majored in economics with a minor in journalism at the University of Pittsburgh and received his B.A. degree summa cum laude in 1952. He was tapped to Omicron Delta Kappa for leadership in the YMCA and scholastic achievement and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1955 and was first in his class, elected to membership in the Order of the Coif and was graduate of the year, Shiras Inn, Phi Delta Phi. Mr. Morgan served a clerkship with Homer King, Esq., during law school, and his legal career began as an associate with Smith, Buchanan, Ingersoll, Rodewald & Eckert from 1955 to 1958. In 1958, he was one of the original members of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin & Mellott, starting as an associate and being a partner from 1960 through 1984 and office manager from 1961 to 1972. His corporate practice covered antitrust, bankruptcy and creditors rights litigation, class actions, product liability and commercial real estate matters. He was a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar associations, the Academy of Trial Lawyers of of Allegheny County, the American Judicature Society, the American Law Institute and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (president 1981-82) and House of Delegates. Mr. Morgan was a fellow of the American and Pennsylvania Bar associations and past president of the University of Pittsburgh Law Alumni Association. In 1985, he transitioned into a solo practice, later associating with Thomson, Rhodes & Cowie in 1986. He retired from private practice on Dec. 31, 1994. Jack and his beloved wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann, joined the Church of the Ascension in 1958, where he was appointed chancellor that year. Over the years, he served as head usher, a vestry member multiple times, senior warden twice, chairman of three search committees, a member of the building fund committee and the Every Member Canvass, a convention delegate and a lay reader. Jack was elected to the board of trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1999, was appointed board president in 2004-05 and was a member of the Duquesne Club and Churchill Valley Country Club. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and a golfer who enjoyed the company of friends and his sons on various courses. Lois D. Nava, of Greensburg, on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital, Greensburg, with her husband by her side. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Kathryn Reese Donaldson. She was also predeceased by a brother, Raymond Donaldson Jr., and by her father- and mother-in-law, Sam and Serafina Nava. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Nava. She has two children, Sally Llovet Nava and her husband, Ricardo, of Squirrel Hill and Madrid, Spain, and Jerry Nava and his wife, Kim, of Eldersburg, Md. She was Nonna (grandmother) to seven grandchildren: Ricky, Sofia and Peppino Llovet-Nava and Emily, Sam, Ted and Matilda Nava. Also surviving are her sister, Nancy Jean Mancini, of Pasadena, Calif., a sister in-law, Elizabeth Donaldson, of San Jose, Calif., and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Lois was a graduate of Greensburg High School, where she played clarinet in the band for four years. She attended Davis and Elkins College and graduated from Slippery Rock with a degree in elementary education. She earned a Master's degree and a Reading Specialist Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. Lois taught in and retired from the Greensburg Salem School District. She organized the National Honor Society at the former Greensburg Salem Junior High School. During her teaching career, Lois was a member of the Greensburg Salem and National Education Association. After retirement, she became a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and served as secretary for both its Westmoreland chapter and Region 7. She was an active member of the Greensburg College Club, serving on its scholarship committee for a number of years. She also belonged to the Dante Alighieri Lodge of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America and of the Sons of Italy Lodge 735, for which she served as secretary. As a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Lois served as a Eucharistic minister and a greeter. She was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society, Bible study group, and the Youthful Seniors organization in which she was a former secretary and president. Along with her husband, Lois traveled extensively both in the United States and abroad. She enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, the Panama Canal, the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. Her travels took her also to Spain, Portugal, Morocco, France, Italy and Australia. The most important and cherished moments in her life centered on family, students, church, friends, and country. She was loving as she was loved, inspiring as she was inspired and helpful as she was helped. The legacy she leaves behind is in the minds of all the students whose lives she touched through her teaching and by example; and in the hearts and memories of her husband, her children and her grandchildren. No greater bond could exist than that with which Lois molded and held her family together. Though we are deeply saddened without her, we rejoice in knowing how much richer, fortunate and blessed we are in having been touched and loved by her. Instead of goodbye, Lois, we say arrivederci, which in Italian means until we are together again. Sister Jude Thaddeus O'Donnell, S.C., 90, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, Greensburg. Born in McKeesport, Sister Jude Thaddeus entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on Sept. 8, 1933 from St. Paulinus Parish in Clairton. Preceded in death by her parents, Leo F. and Margaret (Conroy) O'Donnell, and three sisters, Mary Agnes Regan, Leota Lane and Mrs. Russell (Joan) Bonner, she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor's (education) degree from Duquesne University and a master's (Spanish) degree from the University of Notre Dame. Her early years of ministry were spent teaching students of the elementary and secondary levels in the dioceses of Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg and Pittsburgh. In 1962, she was assigned to teach Spanish at Seton Hill University, where she began a 20-year tenure as associate professor of Spanish and chair of the Spanish department. She also taught Spanish during the summer sessions at Seton Hill during the 1960s and 1970s. In reflecting on her more than 70 years in religious life, Sister Jude Thaddeus said, "I thank God for the many graces and blessings I received during my years of ministry as one of Mother Seton's Sisters of Charity."Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Caritas Christi, 459 Mt. Donald E. Ryan Sr., 66, of East Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006. Don was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked as a manager for Eat'n Park restaurant for 18 years. After 17 years employment, Don retired from Forbes Regional as a food service supervisor. He was a member of the Turtle Creek Area School Board for 10 years, vice president of the Woodlands Hills School Board and an East Pittsburgh volunteer fireman for many years. Father Ermin R., Smith O.S.B.

Father Ermin R. Smith, O.S.B., a monk of St. Vincent Archabbey, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, after a long illness. He was 88 years old. Father Ermin was born in New Germany, Pa., Feb. 7, 1917, a son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Long) Smith. He was one of 12 children. He was predeceased by six brothers, Vincent, Clement, Cletus, Benno, Thomas and Father Julian Smith, O.S.B., who was also a Benedictine of St. Vincent Archabbey; and three sisters, Mary Chirdon, Sister M. Basil Smith, R.S.M., and Sister M. Matthew Smith, R.S.M. Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Ryan and Helen Smith, of Florida. He attended Wilmore Public Grade School, New Germany, and was a 1937 graduate of St. Vincent Preparatory School. He received a bachelor of arts degree from St. Vincent College in 1943, and a master of arts degree from St. Vincent Seminary in 1945. He also did graduate study in theology at the University of Notre Dame. Father Ermin entered the Benedictine monastic community of St. Vincent Archabbey in 1939. He made simple profession of vows on July 2, 1940, and solemn profession of vows on July 11, 1943. He was ordained a priest in St. Vincent Archabbey Church by the late Hugh C. Boyle, bishop of Pittsburgh, on Nov. 4, 1945. He served the Archabbey in a variety of positions. He served on the faculty of St. Emma Military Academy, Belmead, Va. (1945-1947); was prefect and teacher at St. Vincent Preparatory School (1947-1948), as well as St. Vincent Scholasticate (1948-1952). He was vice rector of St. Vincent Seminary (1952-1955); professor at St. Vincent College (1960-1966) and professor at St. Vincent Seminary (1954-1960, 1974-1980), as well as spiritual director at the Seminary (1974-1980). He was socius of clerics (1955-1961) and master of novices (1961-1966) at the Archabbey. From 1967 to 1973, he was stationed at Sao Bento Priory in Vinhedo, Brazil, serving as novice master and subprior and teaching religion. He was appointed chaplain at Latrobe Area Hospital in 1980, where he served until his retirement in 1999. Father Ermin's body will be received at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Elizabeth Roderick Center, St. Vincent Archabbey. Viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the parlor of the Roderick Center. The body will be transferred to the Basilica for the vigil service at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, where his body will lie in state until 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Vincent Archabbey Basilica. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery. Ronald D. Urbas, 63, of Houston, Pa., died in his home on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 23, 1942 in Strabane to John and Josephine Sunday Urbas and worked from age 18 until a few months before his death as a machinist foreman at Canon Tool Co., Canonsburg. Ron enjoyed target shooting; gun collecting; nature; science fiction; reading nonfiction science, astronomy and physics, and parachuting and was a pilot of single-engine airplanes. Mr. Urbas was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His strength, intelligence, sense of humor and moral character were unique to Ron alone. He put everyone and their happiness above his own. Everyone fortunate enough to have known him was touched with his knowledge and generosity of spirit. Anthony J. "Cutty" Vitigoy, 89, of West Newton (Collinsburg), died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at his home. He was born June 12, 1916, in Collinsburg, a son of the late Anton and Anna (Smerkol) Vitigoy. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Construction and General Laborers Union, Local #1451, in Latrobe. "Cutty" was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa. He was a member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, of West Newton, and the church's Holy Name Society, a member and longtime secretary of the Slovenian Club in Collinsburg and member of VFW #7812 in West Newton and the S.N.P.J. Lodge. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, and will be sadly missed by all of his adoring family that includes his loving children, Louise A. Farmer and her husband, Bud, of Collinsburg, and Dale A. Mildred M. Wise, 94, of Greensburg RD1, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in the Hempfield Manor, Hempfield Township. Born Feb. 21, 1911, in Hempfield Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Ada May Miller Eisaman. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Sears in its receiving department. She was a member of Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, Hempfield Township. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wise; and two brothers, Paul Eisaman and Lester Miller. Surviving are a sister, Evelyn Shirey, of Greensburg RD1; a sister-in-law, Ann Carnes, of Youngwood; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with her pastor, the Rev. Robert Free, officiating. Interment will follow in the Middletown United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

Diane L. Jones Zitelli, of Swisshelm Park, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006. Beloved wife of 25 years of John F. Zitelli. Loving mother of Anthony E. and Devon E. Zitelli, of Swisshelm Park. Daughter of the late Maxine Jones. Also survived by an uncle, nieces, a nephew, cousins and friends. No visitation. Burial will be private. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anselm Roman Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Word of God Preschool, 7436 McClure Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15218.
