Cavuto to Judiciary Cmte. Democrats: "Trying Out For the Lowest Pond Scum in the Swamp"
Wed 06:11 PM
Neil Cavuto's "Common Sense" segment today (January 11, 2006) was titled "Hey Senators: Time's Up!" In it, Cavuto blasted senators on the Senate Judiciary Committee for taking longer than 30 seconds to ask their questions of Samuel Alito. Cavuto said, "[w]e have no interest at all in what 'you' have to preach." He said the senators should, "[q]uit acting like you're trying out for the lowest scum in the swamp."
Comment: While Cavuto spoke, Fox aired either video or a live shot (it wasn't made clear) of Chuck Schumer (D-NY) questioning Alito. It didn't air a shot of the whole panel, or of a Republican, or of a Republican and a Democrat. Nope. Just a Democrat. It was pretty clear who Cavuto was talking to.
Diane Feinstein Tries One More Time
Wed 04:51 PM
There was no Studio B again today, instead we had the Alito hearings, unabated. Senator Diane Feinstein, (D-CA) tried for a second time, in round two to get Alito to give her an idea on what he thought about Roe vs. Wade, (young women, pay attention, this women is fighting for you) to no avail.

On the Record with Greta van Susteren is known for it's coverage of trials. She is a former trial lawyer who entered network news as a legal analyst for CNN in 1991. She has been with Fox since 2002 and hosts On the Record with Greta van Susteren.
I thought I'd monitor her show as it would be the one show that would go in depth with the Alito confirmation process. However, I was wrong. We first heard about a missing Pennsylvanian women, almost 40 minutes(counting breaks) was spent on Lacy Peterson's mother, Sharon Rocha's new book about Lacy.

Tonight Bill O'Reilly found someone who believes in him and his War On Christmas. Bob Kohn author of "Journalistic Fraud: How The New York Times Distorts the News And Why It Can't Be Trusted', had all the right words of support for Bill making him feel less alone while defending his noble battle against the evil doers trying to destroy Christmas. Poor O'Reilly was all upset tonight about a segment on Dateline, NBC, suggesting that the War On Christmas was a fabrication instead of a serious threat to the American way of life. 1/10/05

Even though criminally indicted Jack Abramoff and his lobbying staff had almost 200 contacts with members of the Bush administration during the first ten months of the first term, there is nary a photo to be found of him and either Bush or Cheney. This strikes us as strange, to say the least.

Tue 07:02 PM
Samuel A. Alito can't have a better friend or advocate in the media than his longtime buddy and former classmate, Fox News "Senior Judicial Analyst," Andrew Napolitano. The friendship between the two is paying off in ways that money can't buy. Napolitano is a one-man Alito booster, cheerleader, and spinmeister and today (January 10, 2005) he fed Fox's audience the latest GOP lie regarding Alito's membership in the reactionary Princeton alumni group, Conservative Alumni of Princeton (CAP).

Tue 06:33 PM
There was no real Studio B today, simply a continuation of the hearings of Samuel Alito for Supreme Court Justice. I knew I was setting myself up to hear legal terms that I might not be familiar with but I didn't know that this afternoon a Republican, Senator Mike Dewine (R-Ohio), would talk continuously like a character on Sesame Street.
Senator Devine went on and on about whether Roe vs. Wade was a precedent, a super precedent or a super-duper precedent.
Robert Novak Not Just Selfish And Inconsiderate But A Liar, Too
Tue 01:33 PM
Last night on Hannity & Colmes, Robert Novak said he was not sorry about outing CIA agent Valerie Plame, he was only sorry about the trouble that came to HIM as a result. One of his stated reasons for claiming that revealing her name was no big deal, was "The CIA never told me that it would cause any damage." Thanks to Think Progress, we know this has been proven to be a lie.

Tue 07:17 AM
With the opening Monday (1/9) of the Senate confirmation hearings on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Samuel Alito, FNC swung into full battle mode, with nearly every program hosting talking-head guests promoting his appointment. Special Report was no exception, & anchor Brit Hume even used the lead "picking" on his Grapevine segment in a double-whammy attempt: an attack on Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), one of his favorite targets, & am umsubtle plug to confirm Alito. Unfortunately for Hume, he was guilty of the same lapse (failure to disclose) for which he criticized Kennedy.

He ended the career of a CIA agent devoted to working on non-proliferation during a war on terror, he caused the indictment of one high-level Bush Administration official, and more, related indictments may be coming. Yet Robert Novak told Sean Hannity tonight that his only regret about writing the column was the problems Novak suffered as a result. That was just moments after he insisted he would not reveal the name of his source, then let slip that it was a man. What a guy!

Mon 07:56 AM
Last Friday night (1/6) on Special Report Jim Angle substituted for anchor Brit Hume & used one of the "pickings" on the Grapevine segment to mock a UK politician who has the ability to make Fox staffers foam at the mouth. Yes, it's George Galloway (again), & this time it was about him being a contestant on a UK-based TV "reality" show. One might wonder why Special Report selected this item for its political Grapevine, rather than the far more politically significant story about the alcohol problem plaguing Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal Democrats (which has subsequently resulted in his resignation). I guess that might remind viewers that there are "some" in our current administration rumored to have similar problems.

Today 1/08/06 on Fox News Sunday Brit Hume subbed for host Chris Wallace. It is discombobulating to see Hume swing back and forth between the supposedlyimpartial host's seat and the advocacy chair of a panelist. In today's case, with Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer on the panel the effect was 3-2 Republican, with Mara Liasson and Juan Williams sitting in for Democrats.
