Admissions

$15 recommended for adults, $10 recommended for senior citizens, $7 recommended for students, includes Main Building and The Cloisters on the same day; free to Members and children under twelve with an adult. To help cover the cost of special exhibitions, for which there is no additional charge or special ticketing (except for Special Monday viewings when the Museum is closed), we ask that you please pay the full suggested amount.

Luggage Policy

No luggage, including small carry-ons and oversize backpacks, is allowed into the Museum. Luggage cannot be checked into the Museum's coat-check facilities. The Museum reserves the right to have a discretionary policy regarding what can, and cannot, be checked into the coat-checks. Questions about the Museum's luggage policy can be referred to the Security Office at 212-570-3781.

Guest Passes

To purchase admission in advance, the Museum offers Guest Passes to individuals or organizations for $15 each or for a discounted rate of $12 each when ten or more passes are purchased. To purchase Guest Passes by telephone, please call 212-570-3711, Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Or, order passes today by fax or mail.

Members

Admission buttons are available at the Membership Desk in the Great Hall. A discount of 10% is available on all merchandise in the Met Store with a valid Member ID card. For more information about the benefits of joining the Museum, see Membership.

International Visitors

Get online information in Français, Japanese, Español, Italiano, Deutsch, Chinese, Português, Russian, or Korean. Maps, brochures, tours, and assistance in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish can be obtained in the Great Hall during your visit to the Museum. Group Visits

Daily Programs

The Museum offers a broad spectrum of educational programming for all of its audiences, including guided tours in several languages, gallery talks, lectures, and films for adults as well as many activities for families and students. Assistive Listening Systems Access (Other Than Print or Braille) for Individuals Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision Accessible Print Touch Tour

The Audio Guide is available in English and several other languages at distribution booths in the Great Hall and at the entrances to special exhibitions. Transcripts in regular and large print are also available. Fees are waived for visitors who are hard of hearing, blind, or partially sighted. Audio Guides are equipped with volume control and are available with headsets or neck loops for hearing aids with T-switches. Get more information.

The Met Store

Located off the Great Hall and in several other convenient locations throughout the building, the Met Store features publications and reproductions produced by the Museum, as well as other books and merchandise related to the permanent collection and special exhibitions. More than two thousand of these products are also available in the online Met Store. Museum Members receive a discount of 10% online, at the Museum, through our mail-order catalogues, and at all Met Store locations across America.

Parking

The Museum parking garage, located at Fifth Avenue and 80th Street, is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. To receive a discount, Museum visitors must have their tickets validated at the Uris Center Information Desk near the Museum entrance at 81st Street. With a validated ticket, the fee is $14 for one hour, $17 for two hours, $22 for three hours, $25 for five hours, and $30 for five to ten hours. The maximum fee to 12:00 a.m. is $35. Without a validated ticket, the fee is $16 for one hour, $21 for two hours, $26 for three hours, $28 for five hours, and $31 for five to ten hours. The maximum fee to 12:00 a.m. is $35.

Designated parking spaces are available for visitors with disabilities. The clearance is six feet, six inches (6' 6"). Parking for visitors with disabilities using over-sized vehicles can be arranged. To make arrangements in advance, please call 212-879-5500, ext. 3561 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Bicycle racks are provided inside the garage for use during regular Museum hours only. Bicycles are parked at the owner's risk; the Museum can accept no responsibility for vandalism or theft.

Street-level entrances are at Fifth Avenue and 81st Street and at the Museum Parking Garage at Fifth Avenue and 80th Street. Wheelchairs are available free of charge at coat-check areas on a first-come, first-served basis. The Museum is accessible to wheelchair users.

A limited number of FM assistive listening devices for Museum tours and programs are available at the Audio Guide desk in the Great Hall. The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium is equipped with an infrared sound enhancement system (headsets and neck loops). To obtain a headset, please ask an usher. Headsets and neck loops are available free of charge with identification.

Large Print

Accessible Print

Large-print labels are available for some special exhibitions. They can be found in plexiglass dispensers at entrances to these exhibitions.

Amenities for Children

Back carriers are available at coat-check areas at 81st Street and 82nd Street entrances. Strollers are permitted in most areas—inquire at Information Desks for gallery limitations. Oversized and jogging strollers are prohibited.

Coat-Check Areas

All packages and umbrellas must be left in the coat-check areas near the Museum entrances before entering the galleries, and must be retrieved before the Museum closes. No luggage or garment bags will be accepted.

Gallery Photography Policy

Still photography is permitted for private, noncommercial use only in the Museum's galleries devoted to the permanent collection. Photographs cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever. Photography is not permitted in special exhibitions or areas designated as "No Photography"; works of art on loan from private collections or other institutions may not be photographed. The use of a flash is prohibited. Movie and video cameras are prohibited. Tripods are allowed on weekdays only, and only with a permit issued by the Information Desk in the Great Hall.

The Museum reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises or to reproduce photographs of objects in its collection.

Sketching and Copying

Sketching with pencil, felt tip, ballpoint, crayon, pastel, and charcoal is permitted in all galleries of the Museum devoted to the permanent collection and in most special exhibitions. Inquire at the Information Desk in the Great Hall regarding current special exhibitions in which sketching is permitted. The use of ink, fountain pen, and watercolor is prohibited. While sketching, please do not hinder the normal traffic flow in the galleries.

To copy works in the Museum's collection with acrylic or oil paint, you must apply for a permit. Permits are limited in number. To receive an application, call 212-650-2818 and leave your name and mailing address, including zip code, clearly on the voice mail.

Lost and Found

Inquire at Information Desks about lost belongings. If you have left something behind at the Museum, call 212-570-3981.

First Aid

The Cloisters

Dining Facilities

The Trie Café, located in the covered walkway surrounding the Trie Cloister, serves light fare and snacks Tuesday–Sunday from 10:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m., May through October.

Wheelchair Accessible

A van is available to assist wheelchair users and other visitors with mobility impairments to enter the Museum. The Cloisters has some limited access for visitors with mobility impairments. By Subway/Bus

From The Cloisters: Take M4 bus directly to 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue.

From East Side of Manhattan: Take 4, 5, or 6 train to 86th Street and walk three blocks west to Fifth Avenue; or take M1, M2, M3, or M4 bus along Fifth Avenue (from uptown locations) to 82nd Street or along Madison Avenue (from downtown locations) to 83rd Street.

From West Side of Manhattan: Take C or 1 train to 86th Street, then M86 crosstown bus across Central Park to Fifth Avenue.

From Penn Station: Take M4 bus to 83rd Street and Madison Avenue.

By Car

From The Cloisters, Bronx, Northern New Jersey, and New England: Take southbound Henry Hudson Parkway to 96th Street exit; cross Central Park and turn right on Fifth Avenue; enter Museum parking garage at 80th Street.

From Brooklyn and Staten Island: Take Williamsburg Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, or Battery Tunnel to northbound/uptown FDR Drive; exit at 96th Street; turn left on York Avenue; turn right on 86th Street; turn left on Fifth Avenue and enter Museum parking garage at 80th Street.

From Southern New Jersey: Take New Jersey Turnpike to Holland Tunnel–Uptown exit; northbound Hudson Street becomes Eighth Avenue, which becomes Central Park West; at 86th Street, turn right and cross Central Park; turn right on Fifth Avenue and enter Museum parking garage at 80th Street.

From Bronx, Queens, Long Island, Upstate New York, and New England via Triborough Bridge: Take southbound/downtown FDR Drive to 96th Street exit; turn left on York Avenue; turn right on 86th Street; turn left on Fifth Avenue and enter Museum parking garage at 80th Street.

From Queens and Long Island via Queensborough Bridge: Use either level; take right-lane exit onto 60th Street (westbound); at Madison Avenue, turn right and drive north/uptown; turn left on 81st Street then left on Fifth Avenue; enter Museum parking garage at 80th Street.

From Madison Avenue and 83rd Street, take M4 bus directly to the last stop (Fort Tryon Park–The Cloisters).

By Subway/Bus

Take M4 bus directly to the last stop (Fort Tryon Park–The Cloisters) or take A train to 190th Street, exit station by elevator, and walk north along Margaret Corbin Drive for approximately ten minutes; to avoid walking, transfer to M4 bus and ride one stop north.

By Car

Take Joe DiMaggio Highway/Henry Hudson Parkway northbound to first exit after George Washington Bridge (Fort Tryon Park–The Cloisters). This exit is accessible only from northbound lane; if coming from the north, take Henry Hudson Parkway southbound to exit 14–15, make U-turn, and travel north one mile to exit marked Fort Tryon Park–The Cloisters.
