Experiments

Demos, unfinished song ideas, and other rough stuff.

[SND] Still Nina (GarageBand version) (4.1M): "Still Nina," from Shiver, a newer version, with multiple guitars and drum loops. It's a bit big for this song, but it still sounds cool.

[SND] Still Nina (original demo) (921K): The original demo of "Still Nina," recorded the day I wrote it. It contains a mutant chord that's a little discordant (it became a Dsus4, in the final version), but I can't help feeling there's a sweetness to it I haven't quite recaptured.

[SND] Someone's Angel (1.75M): A short, very incomplete demo of a song I wrote in May 2005. I will definitely finish it.

[SND] End (3.4M): A song I wrote in 1999; this is a version I did in 2000, in the Evergreen State College audio lab, with a drummer and bass player whose names I do not know.

[SND] Blue Tuesday (5.6M): Another 2000 Evergreen audio lab recording. Chordally, this song is an ancestor of "We All Fall Down."

[SND] Alien Abduction (1.0M): This is a 2001 composition, and I've always liked it, but just recorded with voice and guitar, it gets a bit repetitive--I want to do a version with a lot more layers.

[SND] My Sister's Gone Crazy (1.6M): Chordally this 2002 song is even more closely related to "We All Fall Down." I changed it partly because I was worried my actual sister would be offended--although in hindsight I think she would have been smart enough to know it wasn't really about her.

[SND] Falling Stars (2.2M): A 2005 recording of a 1998 composition--this is actually me revisiting the first song I ever wrote on guitar. It's surprisingly good, I think.

[SND] Ain't Going Nowhere (1.7M): 2002 chord experiment. I'm not crazy about the lyrics, but I think the music is good and I do intend to someday finish this song.

[SND] Amy Did You Know (1.8M): I think I wrote this in 2000. I've always liked it. I don't know why I don't have a more complete version.

[SND] Up To Here (641K): 2001 ode to self-frustration. Another song I fully intend to record a finished version of--this is a likely track for my next CD.

[SND] Where You Are (490K): 2001 sad song about long distance relationships. I haven't written a full set of lyrics, but when I do this will be a pretty good song.

[SND] No Matter What (962K): 2001 love song demo. Another thing that will almost surely get completed for my next CD.

[SND] Glenn I'm Sorry (1.4M): I think I wrote this in 2002. I deliberately picked a sort of unisex name.

[SND] From The Rain (demo) (4.0M): Early (2002) version of "From the Rain," a much fuller version of which is on "Shiver." One or two people have told me they prefer this rough early take, so I'm including it here.

[SND] Fool Me Once (2.8M): 2003 song. It's political, and even includes a George W. Bush sound clip. I don't write a lot of political songs, but this one is pretty good.

[SND] Fever Dream (1.0M ): Late-night, possibly ill-advised fusion of music and spoken word poetry, from 2004. It's actually better than it sounds.
