Comments:		The CD pictured at the top is a bootleg. * taken from a studio master tape ** taken from a German radio broadcast *** taken from the bootleg CD '70-'90. All the others pictured below are CD-Rs which all contain different music to the official and bootleg releases. These have only been included to avoid confusion, and because 'The Keep' is unusual in the sense that three unofficial versions, each containing significantly different material, appeared on the 'black market' before the 'official' release, itself very different.

The strange thing though is that there is absolutely no trace whatsoever of pops or crackles normally associated with a vinyl record, although this may be due to the noise reduction software used when digitally transferring the music from vinyl to CD-R. Also, there is absolutely no new music which has not already appeared either on official or bootleg releases. There is evidence of tampering on several tracks, again possibly due to the noise reduction software as well as additional sound effects added by an unknown person. All but one of the track names have been used before, some of them only on bootleg releases. The title of track 07 has been spelt incorrectly. The album cover is similar to the the laserdisc release which is also relatively unusual (was the cover scanned and tampered with on a computer?) A black and white scan of the Virgin record label has been seen, but it has absolutely no text printed on it and shows the old Roger Dean dragon artwork which was replaced by plain green or green/red labels after 'Stratosfear' (1976). There has been much debate whether this very rare and unusual item is a promo release of what would have been the official LP release in 1984, or if it is just a very cleverly produced bootleg. One source says that 250 copies of a promo LP were pressed and handed out to record company representatives only at the time. Apparantly 227 of them were returned to the record company and destroyed when the record was withdrawn from the release schedules, so it is possible that 23 copies still exist. According to the same source, 25 copies of an ERT (Engineer Run Time Test) version were also pressed, which had the white 'Roger Dean' Virgin labels, which would explain the unusual label on the record pictured above. Track 10 was apparently different on each version, the ERT pressing contained a constituted track mixed by a studio engineer (apparently this was often done to test if the music would fit onto a single vinyl LP) and the second promo pressing contained all the tracks as intended for the official release. The author cannot substantiate any of the above information, due to the fact that very few fans have seen this item with their own eyes. Track by track analysis: 01 The first 3 minutes 3 seconds of 'Dinu Pass (Reich Approach)' are the same as 'Dinu Pass' on the Blue Moon Bootleg with a clap of thunder at the beginning. Then the track immediately fades into 'The Keep (Main Title)' and finishes with another thunderclap, so it is essentially the first two tracks on the Blue Moon Bootleg merged. 7.13 02 'World After Time' seems to be identical to 'Canzone' on the official TDI Keep 2.46 03 'Silver Crosses' seems to be identical to 'Deadly Silver Crosses' on the Blue Moon Bootleg 6.36 04 'Supernatural Accomplice' seems to be identical to 'Supernatural Accomplice' on the official TDI Keep 4.06 05 The first 3 minutes 1 second of 'Night in Romania' is the same as 'The Night in Romania' on the official TDI Keep and then the track fades immediately into the beginning of 'Ancient Powerplant' but fades out after only another minute and a half or so. 4.34 06 'The Soldiers in Black' seems to be identical to 'The Black Soldiers' from the Blue Moon Bootleg apart from an added echo on the drum beat at the 4 minute 58 second point which jumps slightly afterwards indicating that the track might have been tampered with. 5.21 07 'Puer Matius est Noblis' is mis-spelt for a start, and it is in fact identical to 'Puer Natus est Nobis (Gloria Theme)' on the official TDI Keep. 3.10 08 'Fishermans Village (The Journey Begins)' is in fact identical to the track 'Moorland' from the 'Daydream' single. 3.56 09 'Glaeken's Quest' is identical to 'Glaeken's Quest' on the Blue Moon bootleg but fades out considerably earlier. 3.17 10 'Brothers in Death' is very similar to 'Brothers in Death' on the Blue Moon Bootleg, but the track carries on for longer and has a few minor special effects over the top which sound as though they have been added later. The latter part which fades in after the 2 minute 18 second point is probably taken directly from the official release 'Logos'. Again there is evidence of tampering on this track, particularly at the 12 minute 40 second point where a slight jump can be heard and the music immediately fades into the end section of 'Logos Part 1'. The track ends with a few seconds of special effects which cover up what would have been the applause which appeared at the end of the original track. 15.52
