THE
SAGA OF CAPTAIN PETER (WRONG WAY) PEACHFUZZ
Captain Peter Peachfuzz,
"The world's worst sailor," has a new role to play on "Rocky and
His Friends" on ABC-TV. Peter Peachfuzz is a short squat fellow who looks
square, but dashing in his nautical uniform. He tends to be a bit top-sided due
to the heavy load of medals on his chest, which he supports with his left arm.
His "fog-horn" voice, slightly reminiscent of Ed Wynn, is actually
done by Paul Freese on the "Rocky" show.
The story of the end of his sailing career is a
blood-chilling one. It seems that on his return from his last voyage as master
of the S. S. Andalusia, he made a slight miscalculation in docking and, as a
result, sailed the ocean liner right into the middle of New York's financial
district. As a result of this typical "Peachfuzz" error, the
Andalusia wound up wedged tightly between two tall office buildings on Wall
Street. There she remained... it was the first time in history that financiers
could take a winter vacation and watch the market at the same time. The
Andalusia became so popular that she was given an address...17 1/2 Wall Street,
and to this day is a trusted member
of the financial community (besides being the only banking firm with
portholes!).This caper was of course
the end of Captain Peachfuzz's sailing. He was piped over the side by the board
of directors and summoned to a meeting of the U.S. Maritime Commission. At the
meeting, he discovered that he had been promoted to "Q-2" (a big deal
in the cold war) in sole charge of counting penguin eggs at the South Pole
(they couldn't think of any place farther away to send him).
In typing Captain
Peachfuzz’s orders, the typist, a niece of the Captain’s, made one little
mistake...she hit a "G" instead of a "Q" and Peter
Peachfuzz became head of G-2, The American Intelligence System. In a week’s
time, the good captain had every American secret agent hard at work following
some other American secret agent (giving them all a feeling of togetherness).Since all the agents were
otherwise occupied, Peachfuzz took on the job of following "Rocky and His
Friends" in their various adventures, and you can meet him and the whole
gang on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 5:30 p.m. over ABC-TV.
"Rocky and His Friends" is sponsored
by General Mills, Inc., through Dancer-Fitzgerald-Sample, Inc. The show is
created and written by Ward Productions and produced by Producers Associates of
Television. |
