• Online Operator

Do you want to make a start in online publishing? Independent Online, South Africa's leading online publisher, is looking for an online operator. This junior editorial position is Cape Town-based and will be offered on a contract basis, initially for a three-month trial period.

Purpose and outcomes of the job:

• Extract editorial content from our newspaper partners, including the Isolezwe newspaper
• Process articles and pictures for use on the Internet
• Update editorial pages on newspaper websites
• Enhance editorial content for archiving purposes
• Provide accurate reports

Core competencies:

• isiZulu first language (home language)
• Strong English language skills
• An understanding of the online environment
• Proven ability with a variety of computer applications
• The ability to work fast and accurately
• Initiative and teamwork skills
• A responsible attitude and the ability to complete reports

More about the ideal candidate:

• You must be able to work night and weekend shifts
• Your own transport is essential because of the nature of the working hours.
• Newsroom or online publishing experience would be an advantage.
