UTAmp

It's been a long time......a long time. But I will make worth your while. With the help from several people I finally tracked down the bug that plagued everyone who followed the tutorial for converting MP3's and importing them into UT. The problem was the track would only play for about 20 seconds and then loop back to the beginning of the track. I tried to duplicate the problem several times and could not get the track to loop. Many people sent in requests for a fix but when I contacted them with suggestions most never replied back with the results.

However, I did track the problem down to the program Modplug. Apparently the version currently available on the web site causes the looping bug. I was using an older version which did not introduce this problem. You can get this version from the download page. For those people who helped track this down...thanks!

Well the latest version of UTAmp seems to be behaving itself...I haven't received any bug reports =). Hop on over to 'Modsquad' and check out the review of UTAmp...the gave it a 9.5/10 and it is a MODSQUAD Pick and while you are there pick up some other great UT mods/mutators

For those of you who are tired of the music tracks that ship with UT go to the links page and pay a visit to two great sites, UnrealRocks and UMX Palace for custom UMX files. You will find quite a nice collection of music to add to your playlist!

One last note....I have received a few questions regarding the music conversion tutorial I posted. Most people are having a problem with the converted track only playing for about 10-20 seconds then looping back to the beginning. I had this same problem but can't remember the solution. Make sure the track is saved in 'MONO', I think this fixes that problem. When I get a chance I will convert a few tracks to see what the issue is.

Quite a few people have e-mailed with questions about MP3 support for UTAmp. Currently there is no native support for MP3's and I'm not sure if I will implement that feature in the future. UT's support for MP3 music is sketchy and gets in to areas that I'd rather leave alone (most notable having to implement custom .dll's).

On the bright side I have posted a tutorial that will walk you through converting MP3 files into native UT music packages. You can then play these files using UTAmp. It is involved but works fine and I have several MP3's converted and in my playlist. You can find the tutorial here and on the links page.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

UTAmp version 1.8b is released!! Goto the download section to get it.

Please check out the release notes to view the changes and known issues. I removed the CD music option from UTAmp for a number of reasons, most notable is the poor CD music support implemented in UT itself. The CD support in version 1.0 was nothing more than a shortcut for typing the CDTRACK x at the console. I was not happy with the playlist support for CD music so I removed the feature entirely for this version.

On the bright side the new features for *.umx files makes this a much better version. This is also a public beta release so please send bugs or problems to me.

A new version of UTAmp is on its way, I just need a few more days of testing out the new features and tweaking the interface somewhat. Here are few items added for the next release: I hope to have the next version out just before the new year...well it all depends on how much time I get to spend coding over the holiday. In the mean time, check out these two awesome sites for .umx files to add to your collection.

Whoa...long time no post. Well between work and real life things can get quite crazy. I won't bore you with the details =) During the last 2 months I have worked on new features for UTAmp based in part on the feedback I received from users and from some of the features I had planned for version 1 but did not implement. Some good things have come out of my research as well as some bad. For the most part I have several enhancements to include in the next version but some features are just not possible with UnrealScript and UT's support for music/audio. Some of the features require external code to work and I am not sure if I want to take that road.

The good news is that I have had some unexpected contributions from 'mouse' of the Real Tournament team. Mouse sent along his code for the 'Personal Stereo' feature of Real Tournament. It appears that they will not be using it and he gave me free reign with the code. UTAmp and Personal Stereo share allot in common and I hope to have the some of the features incorporated into UTAmp soon. While I am on the subject, please send me some feedback and suggestions for added features to UTAmp.

Lateron......and Happy Turkey Day!!

I have uploaded a non-umod version of UTAmp for those whoare having problems installing it. You can get it from the downloads page

I also noticed an error in the utamp.int file. There was an old reference for a mutator that I had been working on in conjuction with UTAmp. You can remove the line that adds the 'musicplayer' mutator to your mutator list. It doesn't effect the use of UTAmp but I figured I mention it any way.
