Hbc Heritage Services is developing a number of workshops which are available to the general public. Teachers and students can also learn more about our educational programs.
Wrapped in Tradition: Hbc Capote Workshop
Make you very own Métis capote from a genuine Hbc point blanket. This full-day workshop will provide you with all the materials and instruction you require to be able to this traditional self-tie, wrap-style coat. Participants decide basic design options such as length, hood style and decorative elements before tracing and cutting pattern pieces. All sewing is done by hand and no experience is necessary. Learn about the history of Hbc and the importance of the point blanket as you create your own little piece of Canadiana.
Recommended for Adults.
Workshop duration: Full day
Includes instruction, historical presentation and lunch in addition to blanket, use of patterns and all sewing notions. Routinely offered at our three gallery locations (Montreal, Toronto and Victoria) it can also be booked by groups outside these areas. Please check the Events listings for the next scheduled workshop in your area, or contact us for further information if you are interested in hosting a workshop.
Cost: $300 per person.
