Subscribe Unsubscribe News Saloon 1998 - 2003 Saloon has been in an assisted sleep for over a year since the last gig on 12th September 2003 in Paris. After Mike, Matt and Alison departed, Amanda and Adam had hoped to keep the band alive, but, with a different dynamic, the direction changed and the dream has faded and dissolved. After much deliberation, it has been decided to switch off the machines, and announce the end of the band. Many thanks to all those who helped make the Saloon experience all that it was for the 5 1/2 years together. It would be too much to name you all here, we're sure you know who you are already and how much your love and help was much appreciated. As for the future the idea of putting together a Saloon singles compilation has again been suggested and may now become a reality. As for goings on by the individual members of the band, before resuming her studies Amanda has been helping out The Projects by filling keyboard duties for a handful of shows. The Projects new album 'Lets Get Static', (which was recorded by Amanda and Adam) was recently released on Track and Field. Matt has gone back to school and is studying art in London. He is playing in two bands Maps and Man the Aggressor. Alison has been playing live with January and also with Jeffrey Greene of The Butterflies of Love. She has also been recording with The 18th Day of May, Do Me Bad Things and plays on the new Tompaulin album. She is also one half of two-piece band The Left Outsides where she both sings and plays viola; they have recently recorded a Brian Jonestown Massacre cover. Adam needs to get his moog fixed. Michael is currently studying a course in town planning; perhaps, someday in the near future, you will ride in a cycle lane that he has designed. As the band won't be touring again our friends at The Haunted Fishtank will be selling off the last of the merchandise and some of the back catalogue at obscenely reasonable prices. Check out the merchandise section for details. John Peel The band would like to express their deepest sadness at hearing of the death of John Peel. Our sincerest condolences go out to John's family and friends. John championed Saloon from the release of their first seven inch, and without his support everything would have been very different for the band. His influence across popular music was immeasurable and his death has left a terrible void. Open a bottle of red wine and play a minute of noise in his honour; we're sure that's how he'd like to be remembered.
