In 1930s Paris, Irish-born Guy (Townsend) and Gilda (Theron), the daughter of a French aristocrat, enter into a heated love affair -- one that will be tested by war, social taboo, and secret political associations.
Originally set to star Natalie Portman and Jay Rodan, real-life lovers Theron and Townsend eventually came to star in the project, a labor of love for director Guigan, who had been developing the project for years. It doesn't seem like the strongest follow-up for Theron (who's getting good reviews for her performance), but with three other solid projects in the works -- including one with Boys Don't Cry director Kimberly Peirce -- she has certainly made the most of her Oscar win.
Tennis pro Peter Colt (Bettany) has lost his focus and subsequently slipped way down in the rankings. Fortunately for him, he meets Lizzie Bradbury (Dunst), a young, feisty ace on the women's circuit, who helps him recapture his heat.
5 out of 10 stars: Cribbing from the oeuvre-establishing films that made screenwriter Richard Curtis a master in his domain, Wimbledon could pretty much be Notting Hill, except the two stars are blonde. Substitute tennis for movie stardom, and there's your romantic comedy ready-made!

Now, as a saggy, egotistical 47-year-old, he must return to the ballpark, lest he forever be known as Mr. 2997.

New York City, 1939: Reporter Polly Perkins (Paltrow), scooping the story behind the disappearance of the world's top scientists, teams with skilled pilot Joe "Sky Captain" Sullivan (Law) to thwart the plans of a mad scientist whose flying robots have descended upon the city.
Clueless thieves Calvin (Friedle) and Leonard (Owen) scheme to marry the Mundt sisters (Lasser, Taylor) in order to take control over their fortune and Beverly Hills estate.
0 out of 10 stars: Even a pervert might shrivel at the notion of two fugly young men sexing up a pair of elderly sisters in a scheme to make away with the ladies' millions. With National Lampoon's Gold Diggers, Gary Preisler, the movie's director, writer, and producer, has only succeeded in doing one thing: he's created a new kind of sex comedy, one that makes you want to avert your eyes...more

Dubya-baiting satire + nouvelle riche distributor = Sayles' biggest success since Lone Star. And Sayles fave Cooper is already racking up great notices.
In the year 2032, Bateau (Ôtsuk), a cyborg detective for the anti-terrorist unit Public Security Section 9, investigates the case of a female robot - one created solely for sexual pleasure - who slaughtered her owner.
Yeah, yeah, yeah - so it competed in Cannes alongside Shrek 2. It paints a pretty picture, but this is a film meant for beat-up art theaters and its rabid core audience - people who've waited nearly ten years for director Oshii's follow-up to one of the most influential anime films ever.
Boy genius Michael Dean (Adkins) teams up with a super-talented monkey and his caretaker (Modine) to take down an animal testing lab. In exchange the scientist gives the boy some pointers on how to woo the girl of his dreams.
Our boss says monkey movies always seem to do well ... Originally intended as a 2003 release (and originally titled Hairy Tale), Funkey Monkey could benefit from being one of the few family movies in theaters.
At her post in a city hospital, Eliska (Geislerová) grows close to Richard (Trojan), a surgeon who introduces her to the Nazi Resistance party. Exposed, the lovers separate; Richard flees the country and Anna turns to Joza (Cserhalmi), a man whose life she helped save. Anna's best chance at survival is to relocate to Joza's mountain village, where she becomes Hana, his new wife.
This Oscar-nominated Czech film finally gets its day in American theaters. Geislerová's performance as a woman who must lead two very different lives earned her a Best Actress award in her native country.
Twentysomething civil servant Shane (Legge) gets a much-needed makeover when he enrolls in art school, gets a gay roomie (Leech), and hooks up with a new girlfriend (Shiels). Things are looking rather fabulous until his relationship with the pusher in his building jeopardizes his upward mobility.

Banding together with her fellow survivors, Alice must face the terrifying undead, as well as the evil Umbrella Corporation's new, seemingly unstoppable creation: Nemesis.
John Wayne was known for his swagger. Clint Eastwood his squint. Milla Jovovich, if she's known to later generations at all, will be remembered for those countless scenes where she woke up naked, disoriented, and incoherent...more
Though she's held captive, Jessica Martin (Basinger) manages to contact an unsuspecting young man (Ellis) via his cell phone. As he becomes her only lifeline to thwarting the abduction of her young son, the good samaratin soon gets way more than he bargained for.
Your first indication that Cellular is going to be a thoroughly fun, thoroughly trashy B-movie is within the first five minutes, when Kim Basinger shows up in a tight black dress with fishnet stockings, walking her 11 year-old son to the bus. Some parent-child banter ensues, culminating in the question, "Mom, what's going to happen if you become a science teacher at my school?" Kim Basinger is a science teacher? In fishnet stockings?! Oh man, is this gonna be good! ...more
Stoked by the legend of lost treasure, three lifelong friends (Green, Lillard, and Shepard) set off on a canoe trip, unaware of the rapids and other dangers ahead.
Not the wildly raucous free-for-all that you'd hope it would be (or would be led to believe from the trailer), Without a Paddle is part comedy, part life lessons, and part opportunity to see three toned-but-not-very-muscular actors in their underwear. All three things separately are certainly very enjoyable/life-affirming/entertaining in their own right, but combine them and you have a lukewarm adventure that sets the bar low for its comedy goals and somehow manages to underdeliver even with such paltry standards. ...more
In pre-unified China, a soldier with no name (Li) relates to Emperor Qin (Chen) the story of how he defeated Qin's three most feared enemies, Broken Sword (Leung), Flying Snow (Cheung), and Sky (Yen).

Now settled in Genovia, Princess Mia (Hathaway) faces a new revelation: she must get married within 30 days or else she forfeits her crown.
Gracious, polite, beautiful, and poised, Anne Hathaway is every bit the princess she is meant to be in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, a G-rated sequel she is far too old to be in. But like most royalty, Hathaway puts on a brave face, faces her duty, and does what must be done and most importantly, leads us to believe she is sincerely enjoying it. ...more
In the Bornean rainforest, scientists searching for the life-extending Blood Orchid flower run into a group of juiced-up anacondas, bent on suffocating all those who wade through their domain.
Since Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Red Orchid screams "Exploitation!" and doesn't have a lot to live down, particularly its heritage, it uses a series of mounting obstacles and a game, if green, cast to create a mini-surprise here at the tail end of the dog days of summer. ...more
Film star Bo Laramie (Hauser) exacts revenge on the members of the paparazzi for their part in an accident that harmed his wife and son.
It'd be impossible to have a movie called Paparazzi make it through production without a hitch, especially one that has Tom Sizemore on its payroll. Remember Sizemore's celebrity death threats to Heidi Fleiss last year? They were apparently made during production on this film -- noted, uh, hair stylist Paul Abascal's debut feature.
L.A. cabbie Max (Foxx) finds himself the hostage and driver of Vincent (Cruise), a contract killer who has one night to off five key witnesses on a high-profile federal crime.
Let's get it out of the way first yes, Tom Cruise is pretty good in Collateral, but practically everyone else in the movie is better than him. This isn't Cruise's movie -- it's Jamie Foxx's movie. And then it's Mark Ruffalo's movie... ...more
A look into the life of Preston, Idaho's most curious resident, young Napoleon Dynamite, who alters his eccentric daily routine in order to help his best friend become class president.
By pushing for a new kind of cinematic effect, just for fun let's call
it comedic irony, filmmaker Jared Hess lobbies for his place
in film history. But it's apparent early on in Napoleon Dynamite
that Hess hasn't the means to create said effect (fitting characters
