25th Anniversary edition VHS box-sets of the first two seasons of Blake's 7 will be released in November.
Fabulous Films are making the two boxed sets available to buy from 17th November. Blake's 7 is another programme reaching a milestone this year: last January it was 25 years since the TV debut of Roj Blake's interplanetary struggle with the Federation.
Two further box-sets should follow early in 2004. All 52 series episodes have, we are promised, been painstakingly restored for this release. They will be made available as 13 individual tapes (four episodes per VHS), as well as the celebratory box-sets.
Meanwhile plans for a mini-series revival of Blake's 7 may be set back by the reported decision of original series star Paul Darrow (Avon) to sever links with the project.
Avon was the only character from the vintage series to be included in early story plans for a renaissance. However, the Paul Darrow Society fansite has published an open letter where Darrow explains the awkward turn of events.
"Circumstances have arisen that leave me no alternative but to sever relations with the company formed to revive Blake's Seven. I'm sure you will share in my disappointment... (but) I have fallen foul of modern business practice, which seems to prefer exploitation of a brand... A TV Movie such as Terry (Nation) and I envisaged seems as far off as when it was first mooted", Darrow observes.
