  Gary Jules is the Christmas no 1

 Michael Andrews and Gary Jules are xmas number one
Michael Andrews and Gary Jules have beaten The Darkness and grabbed the Christmas number one spot.

The almost unknown pair won the hotly-contested battle to get the festive chart-topper with their cover of 1980's song, Mad World.

Glam rockers The Darkness slipped in behind at number two with Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End).

New entries included Avid Merrion at four, Atomic Kitten made it to five and the Sugababes squeezed in at 10.

'Those guys are hilarious'

The Gary Jules song reportedly only beat The Darkness by a tiny 3,000 copies.

The Darkness are number two
Michael Andrews said the news was "unbelievable". And he had some nice words for his rivals The Darkness too. "I think those guys are hilarious, rocking around. I congratulate them on getting to number two."

In other chart news, Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne are down to number three with Changes, the Black Eyed Peas are at seven and Shane Richie's Children In Need song, I'm Your Man, is at number nine.

The top three in the album charts stayed the same, with Dido at number one, followed by Will Young and Michael Jackson.
