Announcing PLoS Medicine

We are pleased to announce the Autumn 2004 launch of PLoS Medicine, the second open-access journal published by the Public Library of Science (PLoS), a non-profit organization of scientists and physicians committed to making the scientific and medical literature a public resource. Read our press announcement.

  • PLoS Medicine will be an international medical journal publishing outstanding human studies that substantially enhance the understanding of human health and disease.
  • We seek to promote translation of basic research into clinical investigation, and of clinical evidence into practice.
  • PLoS Medicine will publish important advances in all medical disciplines, including epidemiology and public health.
  • All articles will be rigorously peer-reviewed. As with our first journal, PLoS Biology, teams of academic and professional editors, supported by expert peer-reviewers, will select those studies that drive their respective fields forward. Read about our editorial policies.
  • Original research articles will be accompanied by commentaries, essays, educational material, discussion of global health and social medicine issues, and more. Read about the contents of the journal.
  • All works published in PLoS Medicine are open access. Everything is immediately available online without cost to anyone, anywhere - to read, download, redistribute, include in databases, and otherwise use - subject only to the condition that the original authorship is properly attributed. Read about our license.
