The Scientific Pantheism mailing list started up on March 6 1997, as a forum to discuss the ideas and practice of naturalistic, scientific pantheism.
As at May 12, 1999, the list has 650 members from 43 different countries. We have come to pantheism from a wide variety of religious backgrounds including the major strands of Christianity, Judaism, and Hinduism. Our current religious involvements include Unitarian Universalism, Taoism, Atheism, Humanism, Paganism, Wicca, Buddhism and Shinto. By profession we range equally widely and have writers, editors, artists, nurses, psychologists, therapists, air traffic controllers, software engineers, teachers, librarians, civil servants, scientists, philosophers, college and high school students.
Debate is lively and ranges from accounts of our experiences of nature and how we celebrate the solstices, to discussions of environmental ethics or the nature of consciousness. The tone is friendly - more like a community than a usenet group.
The Scientific Pantheism list is open by invitation, to people who feel a deep religious reverence for the universe and nature, who generally do not believe that there is spiritual plane separate from the material plane, and who wish to explore these beliefs and related practices further with an international group of friends.
We also have an e-mail list hosted at SpiritWeb for pantheists who do believe that spirit and matter are two separate and distinct substances. Other types of pantheist can also post here, since anyone is free to join.
If you would like to join either of these lists, please go to the

The material in the following pages is edited from postings to the list, and shows the vigour of the pantheist approach, as well as tackling many individual points.
