Locks of Love, a national nonprofit organization, is searching for
Rapunzels across the nation willing to donate their long tresses to needy
children.
September is National Alopecia Awareness month, and Locks is asking women,
men or children with long hair to consider getting a haircut for a good cause.
Alopecia areata -- an autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss -- affects
4.5 million Americans, half of whom are children.
Matrix, maker of hair care products, has teamed up with Locks of Love to
launch the "Matrix Search for Rapunzel." The organization will take donated
hair and fashion them into custom hairpieces.
Eligible hair donors will receive a free hair makeover. A grand prize
winner will receive a trip to New York City, tickets and a backstage pass to
the Tony award-winning musical "Hairspray." His or her hair makeover will be
featured on the syndicated beauty television show "Main Floor." The deadline
for entries is Oct. 24.
For more information, visit www.matrix.com. Written donation entries must
include your name, legal guardian's name if younger than 18, address, day and
evening phone numbers, age, e-mail address (optional), a recent photo (no
