Contacting me

To foil spambots, I haven't put my email address on any of my pages. My username is benrg, and the machine name is math.berkeley.edu. Put an @ between them and you've got it. Or follow this link and exchange the 'y' and the 'a'.

About my signature

"Ben Rudiak-Gould"

This is supposed to read "Ben Rudiak-Gould" (sans hyphen). I don't actually use this signature on official documents, though at one point I thought about it. The neat thing about it, of course, is that it's invertible--if you rotate it 180 degrees, it looks the same.

I was inspired to design this after reading the book Inversions, by Scott Kim. Douglas Hofstadter popularized the term "ambigram" for symmetric word designs like this.

In yet another example of pollution of the global domain name space, there exists an ambigram web site, with lots of examples by graphic artists far more skilled than I. There is even a link to an automatic ambigram generator, although its abilities are, not surprisingly, rather limited.
