Special Project Copy Editor
Full-time, temporary - Job # 03-054
In this role you will edit and write headlines and captions for stories, columns, photos and other editorial material for the Friday sections. The job includes fact checking as part of the copy editing process and proofing pages. You may work in the backshop during page makeup, lay out pages and copy edit for other sections as needed. Requirements: Excellent copy editing and headline writing skills. Experience editing a range of news and feature articles, including sports stories and longer pieces. Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure. Extensive knowledge of the Bay Area and Northern California. Must be able to work and communicate effectively with others in visual, production and editorial departments. Should be a self-starter. At least three years of copy editing experience on a daily metropolitan paper strongly preferred. Layout experience is a plus.
Copy Editor, On-Call
Job # 03-060
In this role you will edit copy and write headlines and captions for stories, columns, photos and other editorial material. You may also lay out pages and work in the backshop to oversee makeup of pages as needed. At least three years of copy editing experience at a daily major metropolitan newspaper strongly preferred. Experience handling main news, features and business copy required. Experience with sports copy is a plus. Ability to work effectively under strict deadlines essential. High level of computer proficiency required. Familiarity with Coyote editing system is a plus.
