"SCOTTISH CAPITAL'S CONTRIBUTION TO
QUEEN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS"

Posted 28th November 2001

Scotland's capital is making a unique contribution to Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations next year by staging the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo in her honour.

This colourful event, planned for August 2-24, 2002, will include the largest gathering of pipes and drums and massed military bands from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth ever to grace the floodlit esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Key highlights will be the appearance of the Scottish State Coach with Mounted Escort, and the Bands of The Royal Marines, Scots Guards and The Royal Air Force, along with a 100-strong Commonwealth Highland Dance troupe.

Appearing for the first time next year will be the "Bands from Down Under"; massed musicians from Australia, New Zealand and Tonga who will provide an electrifying surge of excitement at the event with their stunning performances.

"There is no doubt that next year's Tattoo will have to be a special one," remarked the Tattoo's Chief Executive and Producer, Brigadier Melville Jameson.

"I hope visitors will come and enjoy Scotland's renowned military music spectacular and, importantly, 2002 will include added pomp and ceremony as a fitting tribute to mark the 50th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne" he added.

Mixing musical skills with visual thrills, Tri-Service Bands, drill teams and dance groups from four continents, including South Africa and New Zealand, as well as those celebrated Scottish regiments such as The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, and The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, will combine to provide an awe- inspiring experience at what will probably be one of the most impressive Tattoos ever staged.

Booking for Scotland's most spectacular outdoor show is set to open on Monday, December 3rd 2001. Tickets, priced £9.00 to £27.50, can be obtained by post from the Tattoo Ticket Office, 32-34 Market Street, Edinburgh EH1 1Q13, by facsimile on 013 1-225 8627 or via the internet at www.edintattoo.co.uk.
