"SPELLBINDING"
- THE 2001 TATTOO
Posted 17th November 2000
Colour
and spectacle are two assured ingredients at next year's Edinburgh
Tattoo (3-25 August, 2001) when 800 performers from the United
States, Australia, Britain, Norway, and the South Pacific come
together against the famous backdrop of Edinburgh Castle for Scotland's
traditional international showcase of music, theatre, and dance.
With
music, movement, and spectacle at its foundation, the Tattoo commands
attention and admiration across the world. Each year over 200,000
people travel from the four corners of the globe to witness a
performance of this universally acclaimed event - a uniquely compelling
pageant, which is also enjoyed by a further 100 million annually
who tune in on international television.
As
always, there is an impressive line-up for the forthcoming programme,
which includes the ever-popular music of the Massed Military Bands;
the Guard of His Majesty The King of Norway; Cook Island Polynesian
Dancers; a thrilling Highland Dance display; and the incomparable
sound of the Massed Pipes and Drums.
But
the show is brought to a poignant close each evening by the Lone
Piper who, high on the Castle ramparts, plays a haunting lament
before the colourful cosmopolitan cast march off the Esplanade
to the famous pipe melody," The Black Bear" - a truly magnificent
end to a spectacular show.
