Quick Take:
Lisa Naņez has 12 caps for the Mexican national team and played in the 1999 Women's
World Cup. However, as a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, she does not
count against the league limit of four foreign players per team.
College:
As a Santa Clara player, Naņez was a member of teams that went to the
NCAA final four every year she played. She was the Broncos' defensive player of the
year in 1997 and 1998, and she was second team all-West Coast Conference in 1998
and 1999. Like new CyberRays teammate Kim Clark, she played for the DeAnza Magic,
which won the national under-17 championship in 1994.
Personal:
Lisa Anne Naņez. Born in Santa Clara. Father Tony is a salesman; mother
Linda is an elementary school teacher. Graduated from Santa Clara in 1999 with a
Bachelor of Arts in Communication.
Why she is an athlete: ``I love the competitiveness, and I also love playing on a team
and experiencing the success that we achieve on the field together.''
If she could be any athlete for a day: Shaquille O'Neal "because he dominates the
game, and he is so big."
Three favorite foods: Burritos, enchiladas, salmon.
Favorite 1999 Women's World Cup memory: ``Playing our first game against Brazil.
Just stepping onto the field for the first time and feeling the emotions at that time.''
