Katia has scored 158 goals in five seasons of Brazilian League matches, ranking as the No.1 goal scorer every season. She was tied for 13th in scoring in the '99 World Cup and fourth in scoring at the Sydney Olympics with a pair of goals in each tournament. She began her international career as a key member of the Brazilian team in the 1995 Women's World Cup in Sweden, then played all five of her country's matches in the Atlanta Olympics.

Katia Cilene Teixeira da Silva. Born in Rio de Janeiro. Father Orlando Rodrigues, an auto mechanic, died before she was born; mother Maria das Dores Gomes is a homemaker. A former track and field athlete in the heptathlon who finished as high as fifth in the South American championships and broke the Brazilian national record six times. Earliest soccer memory: ``Trespassing on a private field to play football, then running away when the owner came.'' Favorite soccer players: Pele, Romario, Denilson, Patrick Kliver, Figo, Zinedine Zidane. Favorite soccer memory: Scoring against Germany in the first round of the 1999 Women's World Cup. Pre-game ritual: ``I have to listen to music. If I don't listen to music, I won't play good.'' Post-soccer ambition: To finish school and be a good role model to children. Community activity: Christmas programs to help the needy. Athlete she'd like to be: Russian pole vaulter Sergei Bubka. Most prized possession: Award as best Brazilian athlete in the Sydney Olympics. What she is most passionate about: ``Football (soccer). It drives me. It's everything for me.'' If she could eat dinner with anyone, it would be: Sprinters Marion Jones and Carl Lewis because ``I would like to know what was the hardest thing they had to get through.
