Teddy Sheringham (left) and David Beckham rejoice after a goal by Sheringham.

Fairy tale finish

He almost waited too long, but David Beckham finally did what he does best -- scoring a goal during injury time to eke out a 2-2 draw against Greece and fire England into the World Cup finals. Nobody expected Greece to worry England, but with the visitors leading in injury time it looked like Germany's goalless draw with Finland would be enough for Rudi Voeller's side to top Group Nine. But England's captain produced a trademark free kick to relegate Germany to a perilous playoff against Ukraine. In Moscow Vladimir Beschastnykh scored a hat-trick as Russia qualified in more convincing style with a 4-0 win over Switzerland.
