Kovalchuk ready to make his mark in rookie year

Ilya Kovalchuk relished being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft. And he made sure nobody forgot about him by scoring six goals in the preseason. But now the 18-year-old Atlanta Thrashers rookie faces his biggest test: the wear and tear of an 82-game schedule ... not to mention that little extra 'attention' those NHL greybeards like to bestow upon highly touted rookies. The Thrashers, with 15 players with less than five years NHL experience, knocked off Buffalo on opening night, and tonight they take on the Bruins in Boston.
