KEVIN CROW
General Manager
As the General Manager of San Diego Spirit,
Crow will manage the business affairs of the WUSA San Diego
team, including local marketing and promotions, local and
regional broadcast contract negotiations, venue selection,
front office staffing and team development.
Crow, a San Diego local, was formerly the
President of Zipdirect, LLC, a business-to-business full service
design, print, mail, data processing, and presort company.
Prior to Zipdirect, LLC, he worked for the San Diego-based
Mesa Distributing Company. Crow received a B.S. in Finance
in 1988 from San Diego State University, where he was a standout
soccer player.
Prior to his successful business career,
he was a world-class soccer player, starring in the 1984 and
1988 Olympics. Crow earned 13 caps with the U.S. National
Team between 1984-'88. He played professionally for nine years
with the San Diego Sockers. Crow led the Sockers to eight
world team indoor soccer championships and was an eight-time
all-star and a five-time Defender of the Year.
Crow resides in San Diego with his wife
(Brenda) and three children (Kendalle, 12; Kellen, 7 and Kamron,
4).
VICKY LYNCH
Director, Soccer Operations
Lynch will oversee the day-to-day functions
of the team, including venue management. Prior to joining
the WUSA San Diego team, Lynch most recently served as a consultant
to the WUSA Headquarters in New York, where she provided expertise
in event management and promotions. In addition, she was responsible
for creating the league's operations policies and manual,
assisting with the development of sponsorship packages and
developing standards for WUSA stadiums.
Previously, she was the director of competition
for the 1999 Women's World Cup overseeing all aspects of team
logistics related to the 16 international participants. Lynch
was an event marketing manager for the U.S. Soccer Federation
between 1995-'98, where she developed and executed national
marketing and promotional plans for men's and women's national
team games. In 1994, she was the manager of volunteer services
for the World Cup held in Chicago, Illinois. Lynch received
a B.S. in finance from St. Louis University and graduated
Magna Cum Laude in 1989.
KIM FREE
Director, Sales & Marketing
Free comes to San Diego from the Women's
National Basketball Association where she was the VP of Marketing
and Business Operations for the Utah Starzz. With the Starzz,
Free was responsible for overseeing all business operations,
including marketing, advertising, sponsorships sales, ticket
sales, public relations, broadcasting, game operations and
the finance department.
She brings a varied background in media
and marketing to the Spirit, having worked at Ion Laser Technology
in Salt Lake City as the Director of Strategic Sales and Marketing,
where she was responsible for management and placement of
all international, national and local media buying. She also
worked for three years as a production manager at KJZZ television
in Salt Lake City, the local UPN affiliate, where she worked
with all aspects of TV production and advertising. Prior to
her experience at KJZZ, she worked as a writer/producer for
KTVX television, the local ABC affiliate in Salt Lake City,
where she wrote and produced commercials for station clients,
was involved with station marketing campaigns and wrote and
produced news and entertainment spots, among numerous other
responsibilities. Free is also an experienced broadcaster
who has worked in television and radio on numerous WNBA, NCAA
and ESPN women's sports broadcasts, especially basketball
and soccer.
A 1989 graduate of Southern Utah University,
Free is also an accomplished athlete. She was a four- year
starter in basketball for the Division I Thunderbirds. She
is still the school's all-time leader in steals and assist
in a career, season and single game. She also played a year
of softball for Southern Utah and is an avid recreational
soccer player. She holds a USSF National "C" Coaching
License.
AARON HEIFETZ
Director, Communications & Player Personnel
Heifetz, who will retain his duties as U.S.
Women's National Team press officer, brings a wealth of women's
soccer experience to the organization. He has worked in women's
soccer for 13 years as a coach, administrator and press officer
and played a key role in the wildly successful 1999 FIFA Women's
World Cup as the Director of Communications for the tournament.
In addition to his Communications Department duties, Heifetz
will also take on player personnel duties, assisting Head
Coach Carlos Juarez in player scouting and acquisition.
Heifetz, 34, has worked over 140 full international
matches with the Women's National Team on five continents
over the last six years, interacting with the national and
international media during the dramatic rise in prominence
and popularity of the U.S. women's team and players. He also
co-authored a best selling book with Mia Hamm in 1999 entitled,
"Go for the Goal - A Champions Guide to Winning in Soccer
and Life."
Heifetz was the assistant women's soccer
coach at UC Santa Barbara from 1989-'94, helping the Gauchos
to four NCAA Tournament berths and a national ranking as high
as #3. He also coached in the Cal-South Girl's Olympic Development
for five years. He served as the assistant press officer for
the 1994 Men's World Cup Team and worked as the Soccer Information
Coordinator for Major League Soccer in 1995-'96, helping in
the start-up of the league all they way through the first
season.
