Microsoft is preparing to ship its first beta of Whistler - the upcoming replacement for Windows 2000. Four flavors will be available: Whistler Personal, Whistler Professional, Whistler Server, and Whistler Advanced Server. The Personal version is aimed at the home/consumer market and will be a replacement for Windows 98, while the other three versions replace the Windows 2000 versions of the same name.

Allegedly Microsoft has been advertising that Netscape was built with Visual C++/MFC - but it seems that so too was Internet Explorer, except that Microsoft has been mum on that point. I wonder where this leaves the 'future of MFC' debate...
