[May 31, 2001, 1:19 PM] Network Problems Resolved

During routine reconfiguration of our network to accommodate new IP addresses issued by ARIN, traffic from some providers to domains hosted on 66.39.x.x IP addresses was briefly blocked. The duration of the problem was approximately ten minutes, and also affected our main Web site www.pair.com. This has been resolved and should not recur.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

[May 29, 2001, 2:47 PM] Network Problems

Beginning at approximately 11 am this morning, we have observed periodic drops in traffic on our Sprint circuit. Sprint has reported having problems in their network today, which are causing these intermittent drops. Each drop is very brief, so impact on traffic should be very small. We are monitoring the situation with Sprint until these troubles are resolved.

[May 29, 2001, 2:07 PM] OpenSRS Back Online

OpenSRS appears to have returned their systems to normal operation at this time. We have therefore restored all domain services in the signup system, Account Control Center, and on pairnic.com. We will continue to seek further details as to the cause of this unfortunate incident. The length of their outage was approximately 15 hours.

We would like to again note that this outage did not affect the operation of any existing domain registration. All registered domains continued to have normal nameservice, mail delivery, and Web hosting.

[May 29, 2001, 10:53 AM] OpenSRS Outage

We have been advised by OpenSRS, our current domain registrar service, that they have been experiencing what they refer to simply as "technical problems", beginning around 10:30pm Eastern time yesterday. They have further indicated that they expect to resolve the problem "within a few hours." Until their service is restored, we have suspended our account signup system and domain registration services.

We apologize for the tremendous inconvenience to our customers and resellers. We are extremely disappointed with their handling of this situation, including not only the apparent technical limitations which may have played a role in the downtime, but the belated announcement of the problem with no useful information regarding its cause or resolution. We are accelerating our work towards direct registrar operations, in order to reduce dependence on third-party performance.

Please note that this outage does not affect the operation of any existing domain registration, except that WHOIS will be unavailable, and domain registrations and modifications cannot be performed. Registered domains will continue to have normal nameservice, mail delivery, Web hosting, and other related services.

[May 29, 2001, 8:21 AM] OpenSRS Problems

We are currently unable to reach the servers at OpenSRS, our registrar partner, affecting all pairNIC domain registrations. This problem appears to be affecting all OpenSRS partners. We will post more information as it becomes available.
