The Card Cooler "Max Cool Case" Preview Posted Friday, December 1, 2000
Tweaktown has posted a preview on the "Max Cool Case" card cooler.

The long awaited and highly anticipated Max Cool Case is finally here from the dudes at The Card Cooler - If you have a powerhouse-workhorse system that gets hot, it deserves to be housed in the case that is designed to cool every component to the MAX! This amazing case cooling system uses six fans to move an incredible 355 (no that's not a typo) cubic feet per minute of component cooling air not including the power supply. Say goodbye to the heat that your overclocked components radiate, it is whisked away nearly instantaneously. There are literally NO pockets of "dead air" inside this case.

Ultima Worlds Online: Origin First Look Posted Thursday, November 30, 2000
GA RPG has posted a preview on Ultima Worlds Online: Origin.

Austin, Texas based Origin Systems helped define what computer role-playing games were all about with their Ultima Series in the 80’s and early 90’s. Founded by industry veteran Richard Garriott, Origin Systems has been one of the most creative development houses to date with popular series like the Wing Commander, Privateer, and of course the aforementioned Ultima. In 1995 the company took a big chance on trying to craft a large scale graphical multiplayer role-playing game where thousands of people could play simultaneously in one big sand box put together by the lucky designers who got to work on the project. This game came to be known as Ultima Online.

Microsoft Whistler Preview Posted Friday, November 24, 2000
Overclockedcafe has posted part 1 of their Whistler preview.

I was looking around the Microsoft Developer Network's Subscriber downloads the other day when I stumbled across Whistler. What IS Whistler you ask? Simply put it's the next version of Windows that will hit the market. Rumors abound that it will finally merge the Win95/98/ME core with the Windows 2000 core. It's going to, "forever get rid of the command prompt and finally be a gaming AND business platform".

Mambo-X CD/MP3 Player Preview Posted Thursday, November 23, 2000
Case Modders Australia has posted a Mambo-X CD/MP3 player review.

The P300 also is quicker in indexing mp3's on the cd. Most other players take between 4-10 seconds or so, and the Mambo takes just 1.7 - 2.3 seconds. Thats damned quick. and just for refernce, this mp3/cd player could index a whole cd in the same amount of time that it takes our favorite action hero to disarm the bomb.

Xteq X-Setup 6 Screenshots/Preview Posted Sunday, November 19, 2000
3D Spotlight has posted a preview on Xteq's X-Setup 6.

The following information & screenshots were provided by the obligatory "Anonymous source" at XTeq. This being the same one who provided us with our exclusive X-Setup 5.7 screenshots before. For those of you who don't know, X-Setup is a multi-award winning tweaking utility (Including the coveted Ziff-Davis shareware award), as you probably might know, it's also one of the few Tweaking programs which I highly recommend, due its masses of settings, ease of use & compatibility with multiple Windows Operating systems. The other one being PC Accelerator 5002.

Sharky Extreme has posted a preview on the VIA PM133 Chipset.

VIA has combined technology from their popular Apollo Pro 133A chipset with S3's Savage4 video technology to produce what may be the fastest integrated video chipset available. So is the PM133 the fastest chipset you can buy for a Pentium III or is it an 'also ran' to Intel's best? We've run a bushel of benchmarks to see for ourselves.

CNET has posted a preview on Windows Whistler

Based on the NT/Windows 2000 kernel, Whistler is Microsoft's plan for an uber-OS that marries NT stability with Millennium Edition's easy-to-use interface and home-computing savvy. Starting next winter, the Whistler family of operating systems will slowly begin to replace all current Microsoft OSs, from the Windows 95/98 to future Windows 2000 upgrades.

Windows Whistler (2276) Preview Posted Friday, October 27, 2000
Future GUI's has posted a preview of Windows Whistler.

You can change so much more of how your windows will now look in Whistler, and some settings seem to be included in multiple places which could make things confusing. Plus now you have two options for font smoothing, regular and MS's new ClearType smoothing, which looks funky on some text.

DTT3500 Preview Posted Friday, October 13, 2000
3D Sound Surge has posted a preview on the DTT3500 as well as the Soundblaster Live! 5.1

This is very important to note as it means that the only way to get the DTT3500 to work in 5.1 mode for games is via Creative's digital DIN connection found on the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 line of cards. This means that the Fortemedia FM801 based cards, the Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz / VideoLogic Sonic Fury and likely Philips upcoming 5.1 card will not work in 5.1 mode for games with the DTT3500. As long as they have a standard SPDIF out (optical or COAX) then it will be possible to use them with a software DVD player and the DTT3500 for full 5.1 Dolby Digital when watching movies. It's unfortunate that Creative / Cambridge SoundWorks did not provide a third analog input on the DTT3500 to accommodate cards that don't use their DIN output. I am pretty sure the DTT2200 will have 3 analog inputs and there are other options like the VideoLogic DigiTheatre LC speakers and MidiLand S4-7100 speakers that will accommodate sound cards that use standard analog outputs for the 6 analog outputs.

Iwill KA266-R DDR Motherboard Hands-On Preview Posted Friday, October 13, 2000
Sharky Extreme has posted a Iwill KA266-R DDR Motherboard Hands-On Preview.

A few weeks ago, we brought you a preview of the Tyan Trinity A762, an AMD 760 DDR chipset based motherboard. Today, we are bringing you a preview of the Iwill KA266-R motherboard, based on the ALiMAGiK 1 chipset, an Athlon/Duron supporting DDR chipset. Yes, that is correct, the ALiMAGiK 1 chipset. We did not say VIA, we did not say AMD, we said ALi. After skipping the entire Socket A architecture, ALi is back with an AMD chipset, and this time, they support DDR memory. Iwill has worked closely with ALi on their board development and we were lucky enough to be first to get our hands on

Intel Pocket PC Camera preview Posted Monday, October 9, 2000
USB Workshop has posted a preview on the Intel Pocket PC Camera

The camera's controls are so simple even a kid can master it. First of all, there are only three buttons on the camera, two of which are the power switch and shutter. Pushing the third one cycles through different capture modes, including video, image and multi-shot. With the same button, you can also adjust between high (640x480) and low (320x240) resolution.

Escape from Monkey Island Preview Posted Thursday, October 5, 2000
Sharky Extreme has posted a Escape from Monkey Island Preview

Lucas Arts have had a rough time of it recently. Their two most recent PC games, The Phantom Menace and Force Commander, were both uninspired, unimpressive and unenjoyable, hardly fitting continuations of the venerable Lucas Arts legacy. And don't even get me started on the execrable Jedi Power Battles for the PlayStation. However, despite this recent nosedive in the quality of their games, there are not one but two lights at the end of the tunnel. One is the promising game Obi-Wan, the other: Escape From Monkey Island.

Microsoft Office 10 Beta 1 Preview Posted Thursday, October 5, 2000
Apu's Hardware has posted a preview on Microsoft Office 10 Beta 1.

Recently I was lucky enough to get my hands on Windows Whistler, the first in a long line of Microsoft's .NET strategy. I was also able to get a hold of Office 10 Beta 1, the second .NET product from Microsoft. This will most likely be released as Office 2002.NET in, of course, 2002.

Windows Whistler Preview Posted Saturday, September 30, 2000
ApusHardware has posted a preview on the next Winodws generation, Codenamed Whistler.

The GUI in Whistler is very pretty. It looks much like one of the fancy themes for KDE or GNOME (both for Linux's X-Windowing System). In fact, Whistler's GUI actually supports different themes. It supports more integrated themes than MS Plus! allows, too. In fact, you can pretty much customize every part of the Whistler interface.
