Some News
- Dave Timmons, former USCA Alumni Co-ordinator, and Dan Eisenstein, Cloyne alumnus, are spearheading a drive to form a separate and independent USCA Alumni Association, one that would be affiliated with (and getting benefit from) the California Alumni Association
(Since the president of the CAA, Rick Russell, is an alumnus of the USCA and stays in a USCA co-op when he's in town, we figure we can trust his assurances about the CAA.
Organizing is just about finished, with meetings scheduled on the first Wednesdays of the month at 7:30p. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 3rd, at the USCA's newest co-op, The Convent. At this meeting, we hope to approve the final draft of the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws of USCA Alumni Association.
- One benefit of affiliating with the California Alumni Association is that they'll cross-reference their very extensive alumni mailing list with the USCA's list of former members. Unfortunately, most of the USCA's names (say 50,000) are still on paper, and need to be typed into computer digital form. We might be asking folks for some help in the conversion project.
Those who're not on the USCA Alumni Newsletter mailing list can write to the USCA Alumni Co-ordinator Augi Pipkin.
- Cal Day, UC Berkeley's annual open house, was on Saturday, April 13th. The USCA had a table (shared with the still-forming Alumni Association) and house tours in the afternoon.
- Also on Cal Day, the USCA had a lightly-attended general formal/informal meeting and get-together for USCA alumni that evening at Cloyne Court. Maybe half-a-dozen people were there, but one was Rick Russell, president of the California Alumni Association.
- A team of four ex-Clones (including yours truly) achieved 3rd Place in the recent Jayson Wechter & Jon Carroll's 1996 Great San Francisco Treasure Hunt! The Cloyne Rangers (Svenja Baviere, Diane Brown, Craig Schmid and I) won a very nice certificate, 6 bottles of organic red table wine (from Frey Vineyards, Mendocino County), 2 bottles of champagne, 4 tickets to the Marsh and Magic Theaters in San Francisco, and bragging rights for our efforts.
- Previously, a team of six ex-Clones (including yours truly) achieved 2nd Place in the recent Jayson Wechter's 1996 Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt! The Cloyne Rats (Svenja Baviere, Diane Brown, Keith Geller, Steve Greenberg, Craig Schmid and I) won a very nice certificate, a bottle of champagne, and bragging rights for our efforts.
- Bill Wallace reports that the unofficial, semi-annual, Cloyne Cup Golf Tourney was held on May 5th. Eric Bierce retained his standing as Cup champion. Also participating, in order of finish, were former Clones Brian Harlan, Eric Petrel, Bill Wallace, Kevin Donnelly, Mark Waldrop, Dan Naar and Eric Hesse. A good time was had by all, Bill reports.
The Page
Here, I hope to put up some pictures, links to Cloyne alumni, and history text. I still have some of the last, from back issues of the Cloyne Crier.
Headers below (mostly) are more hopeful than descriptive, empty spaces waiting for content...

Some recent news about Cloyne, gleaned from various sources (not everyone reading this can access the Cloyne Court USENET newsgroup (see below).
Pictures at an exhibition. Or of exhibitionists.
For now, a couple of (large) shots of Cloyne, from the USCA Web Site, your choice of either a 155 K GIF file or a 55 K JPEG
I'm compiling an alumni e-mail directory. Let me know if you want to be included (see address below).
Cloyne Court has a USENET newsgroup, ucb.usca.cloynecourt. It's not very active (and not widely promulgated), so don't be surprised if the link comes up dry...
Cloyne's parent organization, the University Students Co-operative Association (USCA) now has an official Web Site, with information about the co-ops and the individual houses, including, of course, Cloyne.
The USCA also has a USENET newsgroup, ucb.usca.org.
How'm I doin'? Drop me a line and let me know. Criticism, history essays, pointers to other Cloyne folk, howdys, whatever.
