Love is the key...

The coolest movie of all time...

This page is undergoing a major revamp, so bear with me on this one. :)

This movie is definitely my longtime favorite. I can't describe why, but I've been a Secret of NIMH fanatic for years on end -- and there's been a lot of stuff that came out of that: many drawings, and even a novel that's a sequel to the movie. I don't know how many people would like it, but... If you want to know about it, write me... more on that later, though. :)

I know that when I was little, I saw this movie in the theater and fell in love with it, but the first time I really remember having it stick in my mind as my favorite movie ever was when I was in seventh grade. Why? I remember the obvious crush I had on Justin. :) (More on that later.) In the next few years, it was my "summer obsession" -- every summer, I'd take our copy of it for our old Betamax machine (remember those? Ours still works! :) ) and watch it over and over. It actually inspired me to start drawing seriously -- a lot of my first drawings include Secret of NIMH ones (of, of course, Justin... and the fight scene, which I can watch forever). Later, I got my VHS tape of the movie... it's got to be pretty worn by now. :) I'm also dedicated to making a lot of my friends NIMH fanatics, too, and have succeeded in converting a couple, hehehe... :)

This is THE rat of all rats. Justin is my absolute favorite character in NIMH... When I was five, I swore I wanted to marry him :) and as of this point, he has been the longest crush of my life. (So sue me, it was from when I was about five until many moons after. He's still the cutest rat to ever live. :) ) Though he only appears in about fifteen minutes of the movie, Justin endeared my heart to him for all time, being the epitome of the knight in shining armor: strong and kind, compassionate and caring, brave as a lion -- and a sense of humor, too. I've always been a romantic in search of my knight, and maybe that's why Justin touched me so deeply. You can kinda tell by my room -- I have drawings of him everywhere... :)

I guess in the film, Justin has an apparent crush on Mrs. Brisby. (Call me naive, but I always thought it was the other way around.) After cruising Daphne Lage's page (check it out, it's a shrine to Justin and Jenner -- one long overdue :) ), I read that the animators went so far as to think about putting a kiss between those two in there... and some of the animators went even farther than that. (For more, check Daphne's page out.) Okay, guys, I've been asked this before... here's my opinion on that whole situation: I've never liked the idea. I can think of the attraction between the two as possible, but a relationship, no way. Let Justin marry one of the NIMH rats, it has too many complications involved otherwise. My NIMH sequel reflects that, as does the book's sequels. In my novel, Mrs Brisby is like a second mother to Justin and a good friend, nothing more. But yes, they both still love each other as family very much. I thought it struck a balance. :)
